I sold my truck because it was parked and costing me $400 per month on the payment alone. I sold it and paid off the little bit I owed. I own a honda now and I get anywhere from 25 to 28 mpg average...not highway.

The way I see it, you really need to get out of a monthly payment. If you can sell your truck and buy an S10, Ranger, or Tacoma with cash then you would really feel better about your financial situation.

However if you are gonna swap one truck for another while keeping a payment and saving $20 on fuel (at most) then I don't really see the benefit. Being debt free is what you need to be when money is tight.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.:tmc:
Debt free isn't going to happen, my wife and I both have student loans and some credit card payments, add those in with car payments each and that is where most of our money goes each month. I would drive a car, but I just can't get past needing it for hunting season.:dunno:

You gotta have priorities man. Wouldn't an extra $250 a month to your student loan or credit cards help you get them paid faster?:dunno:

I mean that is what I am doing, I have a student loan and a credit card so about $8000 total between the two. The $400 I used to send to the bank for the truck is now being sent to the student loan and I am paying it off much faster now. The card is next.

Just giving you my example. Oh and All I am saying is sell your truck and buy another truck cash that is all. No need to buy a car. I am just saying you are spending $250 a month that could go to something else.:tmc:

I agree with you, it would be nice to send the money towards the credit cards or student loans first. Maybe I just need to suck it up for awhile and older reliable truck or a car with good mpg's until I get some other stuff paid off.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
That's what Dave Ramsey would tell you to do. :dunno:

It's hard to avoid mortgages. And student loans are somewhat inevitable. But CC payments especially are a bad idea. Vehicle loan (guilty here, too) are probably not "wise" debt.

We don't own our own house yet because we simply cannot afford a payment at the time. We rent dirt cheap from my wife's uncle. 90% of the CC debt is from appliances we needed for our house were in now, kinda had to have them. My problem is finding a car I will like to drive and feel comfortable in. I am open to suggestions. :dunno:

That's the thing, I hunt with a buddy who just bought a truck and I have access to a truck if I needed one. It's just hard to go back to a car after driving a truck for so long. But I think it might be the smarter thing to do. :dunno: At least for a while.

I don't know much about Jetta's, how long could I expect it to run? Any major problems with the 1.8T? I think the price seems pretty good for the mileage on the car, looks clean too. I could probably trade my truck in on it. Yeah i'd still have a payment but it would be a lot less than what I am paying now and I would be saving gas money also.
