AFAIK, it's never been used, since the truck spent it's whole life in West Palm Beach before I bought it.

My thinking is along the lines of Jim's... swap it out for the 1000w unit and know it's good, no matter what the temperature goes down to. Hmmm... crazy thought... I have a 1,500w inverter in the truck and I'm putting in a bank of AGM batteries for the inverter & radios, along with solar panels to keep 'em charged (and a second alternator for faster charges). In theory I could plug the heater into the inverter and warm up the engine that way, no matter where I am. :D

I'd rather have brand new, than brand used. :dunno:

Started it to see how well the new glow plugs work after letting it cold soak overnight (36 degrees). Started right up. :)

Very good...
I have had a few diesels... I know what you were going thru...:ohnoes:
Next step is to fix/check the block heater. Someone cut the plug off it before I bought the truck. I'm not sure if that was because the heater was no good, or if the plug just got caught on something and tore off. A new cord is $24, new heater is a little over twice that, and comes with a new cord. If all I need is the cord I'd hate to spend the money for a new heater, but if I just buy the cord and the heater is bad I'll have wasted that $24. :dunno:

I might just get the improved heater (1000w vs 600w) for $65 and swap it and be done with it.

Ohm it out at the cut cord, then again at the heater itself. I have worked on a few block heaters :D2

There you go, being all logical and making sense and everything. This is TMC. Are you allowed to do stuff like that on here? Especially with you being a moderator and all. You're supposed to lead by example. A true TMC response would have been something like, "Debadge it or replace it with a iHeat module.

failed emissions... again

What's your next step?

vacuum system failed twice. first time was obvious (charcoal canister) now there's a barely visible leak with the smoke machine that can be seen near the gas tank. since it failed the same test twice the mechanic is paying for the next test but now I'm out another $150 to drop the tank and replace hoses. Oh and the NO gram per mile is too high now.

Changed oil.

This was the easiest oil change I've ever done!!! I love the remove-mounted oil filter!

Could I get the remote setup for a ZR2 and install it into my Z71?
They use the same filter and I'm pretty sure the filter is in the same location (in relation to the block). If I could, and find a mounting place behind the bumper, that would be awesome!!!

According to the sticker on the window, the oil was last changed 7/8/10 at 135k using Valvoline 5W30.
I changed oil 1/8/12 at just shy of 140k using Valvoline 5W30.
Take into account that the truck was parked for 6 months right after I got it.

Blazer was the easiest oil changes ever!

Keep an eye on your remote filter lines, though, they can start leaking at the compression fittings.
