The whole vid is a crock.
Dodge has 3.02 gears, Ford has 3.73s and the chevy has 3.42s......real "fair" head to head comparo...

It's a manufacturer commercial, so yes, it's a crock.

And if that Dodge had 3.02's, the 5.3 would've spanked it.

With the 6 speed, the 3.42s have the same get-up as your 4 speed with the 3.73's

Even with all the same gear ratios across the board, the eco-boost would've still pulled ahead...

It would've been by a lot less, mind you, but it would've still won.

Actually, off the line its more like having 4.88s... That 6spd has some sick 1-2 gearing:thumbs:

Giving the benefit of the doubt, plus weight differences...

Yeaup...1-2 in the 6spd is 4.02 - 2.36. 1-2 in the 4spd is 3.06-1.75.

So technically, 3.42s in the 6spd is actually equivalent to 4.56s in 1st gear and 2nd gear of the 4spd. Not even a competition at that point if you're going head to head with a truck with 3.73s (common) in the 4spd.

I think what we all seem to forget is that ANY of these trucks will work, and work great. So it really boils down to other factors... personal preference in terms of looks, price vs options, dealership availability, etc.

Commercials are... well... just commercials. If there really was a "best" truck, the other two would be out of business.

Pretty cool. Just goes to show the technology that is out there. If only the government would stop restricting every little damn thing.

If that were the case...we wouldn't have a high-strung, expensive V6 that drinks fuel like a V8...we would have light duty diesels like that in the Jeep Grand Cherokee we had a few years back (3.0L diesel, ~235HP and 375TQ)

Hell no, but it is a valid argument against a traditional V8 if it's durability, maintenance, and reliability can be proven over the next few years.

How so? It's far more complicated yet delivers the same fuel mileage as a V8.

It's a shame GM is drinking the kool aid and implementing these fairy tale engines in the next refresh. Utilizing turbos and direct injection does not magically increase fuel mileage. That's just good marketing to get people to buy that.

What it basically comes down to is something we've known for years. An engine with force induction will have a flat torque curve. That is not new. And neither is the fact that engines with forced induction have a shorter life span with higher maintenance costs.

Bottom line: If GM comes out with their own Egoboost fairy tale engine...I hope they market it as an alternative for a light duty diesel rather than an engine that supposedly increased fuel economy. The fuel economy is not there...but the towing benefits are.

Now...if GM is really smart...they will come out with an E-Assist hybrid Silverado/Sierra/SUV thats priced right and does not sacrifice fuel economy. GM will print money. First truck with 30+ MPG highway?

Pretty sure a Duramax will out last a 5.3, stock for stock... :dunno:

As long as it's designed properly, a forced induction engine will last just as long as a naturally aspirated one.

Routine maintenance might be a little higher, but there's performance benefits to outweigh that.

It may do better than a half ton pulling 9k pounds but I bet it's not match for a 15-18k lb load. My truck would smoke that thing pulling that load verse its 9klb load...
