It may do better than a half ton pulling 9k pounds but I bet it's not match for a 15-18k lb load. My truck would smoke that thing pulling that load verse its 9klb load...

Probably close to the same

You've got twice the power (or did, when you were stock, lol), so you SHOULD be able to pull twice the weight

I think what we all seem to forget is that ANY of these trucks will work, and work great. So it really boils down to other factors... personal preference in terms of looks, price vs options, dealership availability, etc.

Commercials are... well... just commercials. If there really was a "best" truck, the other two would be out of business.

Exactly.

How so? It's far more complicated yet delivers the same fuel mileage as a V8.

It's a shame GM is drinking the kool aid and implementing these fairy tale engines in the next refresh. Utilizing turbos and direct injection does not magically increase fuel mileage. That's just good marketing to get people to buy that.

What it basically comes down to is something we've known for years. An engine with force induction will have a flat torque curve. That is not new. And neither is the fact that engines with forced induction have a shorter life span with higher maintenance costs.

Bottom line: If GM comes out with their own Egoboost fairy tale engine...I hope they market it as an alternative for a light duty diesel rather than an engine that supposedly increased fuel economy. The fuel economy is not there...but the towing benefits are.

Now...if GM is really smart...they will come out with an E-Assist hybrid Silverado/Sierra/SUV thats priced right and does not sacrifice fuel economy. GM will print money. First truck with 30+ MPG highway?
Its weird that you say the same mileage... My ecoboost is getting better mileage than my buddies 6.2 chevy... better mileage than my 5.4 ford, better mileage than my 5.3 tahoe ever did, and has more power.
And if my maintenace costs are so high, why I am paying less than $40 for an oil change at ford every 5k, as per my owners manual? I haven't had a single issue with my ecoboost and it has 15,000 miles on it, of stop and go traffic, as my wife commutes in seattle with it, daily. Its seeing 17.6mpg with an average speed of 34mph due to traffic. Its seen as high as 21.2 freeway doing the speed limit, and when towing got the same fuel mileage on the same road as my bone stock 6.4L powerstroke did...

Silvy will never admit that his narrow minded approach to "facts" is flawed. It does no good to try and argue with these guys...

In spite of his denial, turbo engines are anything BUT fairy tale engines. They can and do produce the same horsepower and torque (or more) than larger displacement engines while consuming less fuel in the process (and producing less emissions). Turbo engine technology has been around and very successful for many many decades.

Like it or not, they are likely the direction we are headed.

Some people simply refuse to believe that the horse and buggy will ever be replaced.

Even though they are not "direct injected" a few turbos that come to mind from the old school are the Syclone and the grand national.

I am suprised that GM didn't keep going with the turbo technology.

For a small engine to out pull tried and true v-8s like that is impressive.

NOBODY WITH A 1500 PULLS 9000LB+ TRAILERS MY GOD. If you did, you're an idiot! These commercials set bad examples..."Yeah, my 10K LB 5th wheel really doesn't need a HD truck Ford says their F-150 shouldn't have a problem..."

I used to pull 40,000 pound grain wagons with my F-150. Sure it would have been easier with a bigger truck, but it handled it.

Yeah, but you were hopefully on the shoulder doing 8mph on a country road and not on the freeway with stop and go traffic. :D

True.

 I was also thinking that your grain trailer is definitely not putting a lot of weight on your truck because it has 4 wheels. I think 40M would kill a truck if it was a 5th wheel or a tandem axle bumper pull.

:jester: I still think this one is funny

Pretty cool. Just goes to show the technology that is out there. If only the government would stop restricting every little damn thing.

If that were the case...we wouldn't have a high-strung, expensive V6 that drinks fuel like a V8...we would have light duty diesels like that in the Jeep Grand Cherokee we had a few years back (3.0L diesel, ~235HP and 375TQ)

Hell no, but it is a valid argument against a traditional V8 if it's durability, maintenance, and reliability can be proven over the next few years.

I think that it is cool for this engine to be able to do all of what it is doing.

I think these manufacturer produced head-to-heads are always skewed to make sure the producer is looking good. But I think that even my truck with the 6.2 would have had troubles against the turbo with a 9000 anchor attached to it.

yes, but dont the numbers more closely match between the 6.0 and the 6.2 truck and the eco-boost compared to the 5.3

403 hp and 417 tq bb (before blackbear)

I dont know what the ecoboost is. I just think that having a turbo on the truck is going to make it pull better than a NA engine will.
