why would you even want 3.15 gears with anything?

You wouldn't. HOWEVER, if fuel economy is your goal, then 3.15 gears is appealing.

The fact that Ford conveniently does not offer the 5.0 truck with 3.15 gears tells me that Ford is purposely making the 5.0 numbers WORSE to protect the Ecoboost engine.

I mean...do we really think that the 5.0...with slightly less power...would do any worse in terms of everyday performance with 3.15s vs the 3.31s?

There is a reason that the 5.0 is not offered with the same 3.15 gears as the Ecoboost...and I believe that reason is because if the 5.0 did have those gears, it would get the same mileage as the Ecoboost.

I think so

Look at the torque curve of the ecoboost.... It's making 400ft/lbs @ 2000 rpm. That's why it can run those gears and still tow. Having driven both the eco has more low end. Period.

Not exactly. My driving impressions the 5.0 had more off the line torque where the ecoboost clearly had little pause to build boost.

Someone on GMT reported that there is a noticeable lag with the TwinForce engine as well.

They're trying to set a new trend but don't want to show them being outperformed by their other engines.

I hope not. A highly complex V6 that gets the same mileage as a very simple V8 is not a trend I want to be a part of.

I have such a lightfoot... i would love to get behind the wheel of a 2wd scab 5.0 and see what I could do. I squeeze 18 in the summers mixed in my 5.4 scab 2wd now. My display reads low 20s on the highway. My new wheels and tires have dropped me a bit however.

I think the 5.0 tuned would get pretty impressive mileage. I think you guys are right, Ford is making the EB look better by purposely hindering the 5.0 tuning. Just look at how bad the 5.4 3v's were... make you wonder how much more improved the 5.0 could be

Since when is the 5.0 simple

Since it was compared to the TwinForce engine.

Two turbo's really isnt complex. I guess not considering I've driven 6.4 diesels, and other such rigs. Under the turbo's its just a standard DOHc motor with direct injection, another staple of diesels.

People have clammered for years about diesel reliability, with their turbos and direct injection. You suddenly see it on a gas motor and its friggin witch craft. Trust me, the VVT and DOHC in the new coyote motor is anything but simple.

One gas engine is less complex than one gas engine and two turbos.
