I didn't want to derail Jim's thread more than it already was, sooo...

I've never been there, so I can't say how those trails are

If there's a not a lot of off-camber and major flex sections it's not too big of a deal

Do you have an LSD in the back of that thing? :dunno:

My two threads from there from last year's vacation.. Pictures scattered throughout.. (as well as a video - not mine, in the 2nd thread)

Admittedly, everything I tried there was considered "easy." But, there were a few times of getting at least one tire "elevated" and the AWD system worked fine. No LSD that I am aware of. If a tire completely loses traction, the computer uses the ABS to 'tap' the lose-traction wheel and send power to the one with traction..

A quad like the suzuki ltr 450 is something that my gf would get and it weighs 368 pounds without fuel.

the second quad would be a child's size quad

and my dirtbike weighs 218 pounds without fuel

what I don't know is how much a trailer big enough to fit all of them weighs.

No idea... It would depend entirely on how robust the trailer was.. What it was made of.. walls.. completely covered, etc.. :dunno:

A good trailer big enough for that would weigh at least 1000 lbs (by good I mean one with sides, a decent ramp, and a single axle). Hell, my truck doesn't like to pull 2 quads, and its mpg drops down to about 8-10 (4.8L V8). Stopping distance suffers a lot too, which is a big factor. Also, the smaller the vehicle, the more the trailer is gonna push you around.

That being said, we would pull our 2 jet ski's with my mom's 2000 Trailblazer 100 miles to the lake during the summer, and it wasn't bad (4.3L V6). Don't remember the weight of the trailer and skis, but it wasn't exactly light.

I don't like that form of traction aid... It's hard on the brakes when seriously offroading

If I was "seriously" off-roading, I wouldn't have bought what I bought...

Personally, I'd rather it have lockers, front & rear. But, it doesn't.. and from what I've read (and what I intended to do with the car), it'd be too much of a PITA and cost too much to change out..

Some of the older ones had LSD. But, if I've understood things correctly, Subaru figured out they could save money and fit "most" people's needs with this system vs. lockers... :dunno:

Now, if I lived in Colorado or Utah and was always hitting back-roads, I'd probably have an Outback for "most" things and an old CJ or the like for the off-road/back-road stuff..

 that's what most are going to. Even have some catchy names for it. Seems to work OK but who likes brakes activating themselves. Hell, my cruise control will activate the brakes.

Yeah, I used to be that way.. Stabillitrak probably kept me from bending the truck a time or two. So, I don't mind it as much now..

With the OB, you can turn off the traction control, but the vehicle stability assist is always there in case you get it too out of shape.. That was a little annoying when I was playing in the ice & snow a while back. BUT, if I wasn't playing, it was nice to know it was there.. "just in case."

Yeah, that sounds "kind of" cool, in theory.. But, I bet it can be a little unnerving to have it brake without YOU pressing the pedal..

For me, they just get in the way... They're usually too intrusive for me to like... And slower to react than I am

Though that was a 2009 RAV4.... Maybe they're better now :dunno:
