I sometimes leave it in, but not often. The hitch for my TT is a big ole weight distribution one and the one for the boat is from way back when I had my Jeep and the receiver was tucked under it, It sticks way out. I was rear ended last year and the other car was totaled, I had to repaint the trailer plug because it had scratches. I didn't have a hitch in for that incident so I am convinced that for my truck Im better without a hitch, it would have bent the fWONk out of my frame had one been in.

HIs engine compartment and subframe was all kinds of fWONked up.

Mine is ALWAYS on. Im sorry it may be a hassel... but I rather chance a knee knocker than somebody rear ending me and going right under my truck. I leave it in for safety reasons.

Well I can understand that reasoning. But, you are in the minority. Most trucks are not 4 stories high and that's not a concern. I'm not saying there are not some legit reasons.

Brian, I think with a lifted truck is the only way I'd leave it in.

However, with a stock height vehicle, having the tongue in would increase the damage to the other vehicle. And depending on what side you are on in the collision, you could be pretty PO'd. (just sayin)

I also leave mine in for the winter months, at least. There's been times where some asshat follows too closely or doesn't slow down in time and slides on the ice. Or in a parking lot especially

But in the summer months, I usually take it out.
