I say go for it. If it saves you money and you'll be able to get from A to B whenever you want to, there's nothing wrong with that.

You can post as many threads about making good financial decisions as you want. These sorts of conversations are good for people and not something you hear enough, quite frankly.

Yea it makes everyone change their thinking from "DAMN I NEED A SUPERCHARGER!!:rocker:" to "SOB look at all my debt that I have!:ohnoes:"

Sounds like you got it all figured out!

This sounds like a better plan than some of the other ideas you have thrown out there. If you still have access to a truck for when you need one, I would say go for it.

More young people need to learn how to stay out of debt and live within their means for our country to dig out of the hole it is in financially. I will be the first to admit I have been a slow learner, and while not totally out of debt, I have finally learned to live well within my means so I am not scrambling to pay bills every month (although I am hard-headed, so it took some pretty tough kicks to make that happen).

The beater car is a good idea, MC isn't bad but like Cory says you are in the elements and that means special clothing and all that goes with it. Think about insurance for a MC compared to a car too. Sounds like you have a good plan, so don't think I'm knocking anything you've laid out. Just a few different things to think about. Good luck with selling the truck and even if you get a car remember that you are still one of us crazy people at TMC.:tmc:
Don't worry I won't be going anywhere, this place is to awesome!

Insurance wise, I would not carry full coverage on the car, like I do the truck, so I would save there. Depending on the bike I got, I wouldn't have to carry full coverage either, so I think I would save insurance wise also. This all sounds great, I just need to make it happen now.

insurance for the year for my parents two motorcycles is about 150 a year
Yeah but your parents are over 25 I hope.
I pay $125/yr on mine and I'm 20. Granted, its liability and the motorcycle is gonna be 27 years old, but still.

If you weren't in the mountains/hills, I'd say just get a motorcycle and be done, but you need a car for reliable transportation year round.

I originally got my motorcycle to save gas in the truck (45 vs 15; wasn't a hard choice) and it turned out that I love riding so I'll always have one.

I agree that buying a car first might be a better idea. Selling the truck will save you now, but you'll probably never find another one like it for the same money.

Skip the motorcycle, keep the truck, and buy a car....if possible.

Lol, I have no mountains anywhere close, and not really any hills either, but its just the weather in the winter time. I will buy a car before I buy a motorcycle, it's just something I will do eventually, the bike won't be right after I sell the truck. I have my motorcycle endorsment because my dad has a bike and I used to ride his all the time when I lived at home. I miss riding now.

Of all the things you've said, this is one that I am uncomfortable with. Price what insurance would be with a car before ruling it out. Okay, yes a $500 car doesn't warrant a lot of coverage, but how long do you think you'll be driving this car? Will a $500 car fit that bill? I like the direction you're going. It's a hard decision to make, but you'll benefit in the long run. Myself and I'm sure others have had to make similar choices in life.

I get what you are saying, but I highly doubt an older car would even cost nearly as much as my truck does for full coverage.

That's what I was getting at. For less money you can get the same coverage.

Jon, sounds like a good plan. The way things are living within ones means is important.

Oh and for the civic, you need to get it on some
