OK, I have been listening to Totally Money Makeover and have came up with this solution. I know you guys are probably getting tired of me posting things about money, but you guys seem to have a lot of good insight. :) I am putting my truck up for sale. I owe less than 10K on the truck it BB for around 16K. If I can get somewhere around that I am going to sell it. My plan is to buy a beater car, that still runs good and then look into a motorcycle and still have money left over. Does this plan sound smart? I know you are going to say, why a motorcycle? It's something I have wanted and I can get one without going into debt. I would be complty payment free! That would be a huge help! Not to mention a motorcycle would get great gas milage for the summer months. So let's here your comments :tmc:. Maybe I am looking at this wrong. :dunno:

I don't use my truck as a "truck" and I have access to one if I would need it. I have a friend selling a 93' civic with a brand new motor that him and I put in it, he is asking $500.00 for it, but gave first dibs to my other buddy because he didn't know I was looking, so I might try to con my other friend into letting me buy it or buy it from him for $600 or $700, either way I would still make out with a "brand new motor" car.

Its mighty cold up there for a motorcycle to be a main transportation. And rain hurts if you go fast enough. The beater would have to be reliable if the other option is a motorcycle

I won't just buy any beater, it will be something that has been taken care of, but something someone just needs to part with. It may take me a little while to find that exact car, but I think it is possible.

I agree...

As long as the "beater" is still good to run daily.. in any weather... Then I don't think its a bad deal. Specially if the beater gets good mpg's and the bike would too..

Parting with your truck may be hard, but if it gets you out of a rut and helps you out financially then it will be worth it!

I'm glad to see you want to turn it around. I think that it is a good idea but, I would get a commuter car first and drive it for awhile to see what repairs would come up, then spend the motorcycle money on the repairs.

The beater car is a good idea, MC isn't bad but like Cory says you are in the elements and that means special clothing and all that goes with it. Think about insurance for a MC compared to a car too. Sounds like you have a good plan, so don't think I'm knocking anything you've laid out. Just a few different things to think about. Good luck with selling the truck and even if you get a car remember that you are still one of us crazy people at TMC.:tmc:
