Hey guys just a quick question for all yall
I was wondering if any of the Ford techs here know what all is updated on a PCM reflash. Currently I have a low idle while stopped at a red light (400-500RPM). I'm wondering if a PCM reflash will correct this. I've already done everything I can think of to do on my own (cleaning MAF and Cleaning Throttle body, Checking electircal connections etc etc). I've come to the conclusion that it's probably the PCM just telling the truck not to put the idle as high as it should be. Am I right? This is becoming a problem because my truck will die while backing up or parking, pretty much anything at an idle that involves turning the wheel.

So here's the question
Do I need a PCM reflash/update?
If not what should I be looking to do to fix this?

I did the gotts mod and reset the PCM by unhooking the battery for 30 min, however I didn't go through the suggested process that the owners manual says to (drive it 10 miles etc.) Started having problems where it would idle but die as soon as I gave it gas and almost got me nailed while I was trying to get home. This problem as far as I can determine started before I unplugged the battery because every time I parked at my house I had to turn the wheels and I could hear and feel a vibration. thought it was just the tires but later realized it was the truck dying.
This is the only problem I've had with the truck other than the PATS system being a little touchy when going 4wheeling or over bumps in the road real fast.
The truck as far as I know is running on all the original engine setup (including the tranny) and the only performance mod has been the gotts mod.
112k on the truck and nothing like cam phasers or typical ford stuff going on
oh and the plugs were replace 9k ago

sounds like your running lean. do you have any codes? you might want to look into a tune rather than having the PCM flashed as that will likely not fix your problem

no codes, no running lean, just won't run at high enough idle. tune as in like on a dyno? I currently have an edge thats holding the idle high enough I just want the peace of mind that the truck can operate properly without it

Clean your Idle Air control valve, should be located at or near the throttle body, It is its job to control idle rpm during these conditions. :)

well I found this, This particular vehicle does not have an IAC valve. This is because it is equipped with ETC (Electronic Throttle Control). This means there is no mechanical connection between the accelerator pedal and the throttle plate. Instead, the throttle plate is controlled by an electric motor to control its engine speed, based on "input" it receives from the PCM. The accelerator pedal is connected to three poteniometers. Two that increase, and one that decreases voltage in a particular proportion. If they fail, the vehicle goes into what's called a "forced idle" mode of operation.

so if you have an electronic TB then i stand corrected, you do not have an IAC.
