I have used a lot of Fram filters in the last 50 years.
I haven't used them EXCLUSIVELY..but I have used a bunch of them

I have always been a fairly high mileage driver...compared to some.
40,000 to 60,000 miles year.
When I had BIG trucks...150,000 a year.

So...if you add up all the mileage...it's probably well in excess of 4,000,000 miles.

I have always steered clear of the cheap WHITE BOX filters and used MotorCraft or Fram on Ford vehicles and used AC Delco or Fram on GM vehicles.

SO FAR... I have never had a problem with a Fram filter...or any other filter for that matter.

I've only had one problem with a Fram filter in 40+ years of using them or having them on my vehicles... On the oil change before last on my GMC the filter wasn't tightened properly and started leaking from the seal.

The way I see it, if you change your oil and filter at the correct intervals, and the filter is of at least moderate quality, you should be fine, no matter what brand it is.

I was kinda hoping to see motorcraft in there. We've been using the Ford Motorcraft on all of our trucks and haven't had any problem with them.

We also use FRAM on the tractor. No problem there either.

FRAM has gotten a bad rap. You seem to hear more about how someone has used them and that the filter took a turn for the worst and it ruined their engine. The main issue here is that I would say by far FRAM is the most widely used oil filter and so the odds of a faulty one making it to the market are great compared to others. As usual anything bad will spread like wild fire on the net.

I was thinking the same thing.

Motorcraft is in there, and why I use Motorcraft now. The Motorcraft is the same Filter as the Purolater One Filter but isntead of the $8-$10 pricetag, its $3.50- $4, so I use Motorcraft Filters. Now the Ford nuts can get a nut off that I use a Motorcraft product on my Chevrolets. Of Course I paint it Blue before I install it so my Chevy don't know the difference.

I'm thinking you might think a little differant if you used say a Mobil 1 or other better quality filter, then cut it open after a 3000 mile oil change and see what you trapped. Then see what a Fram traps after 3000 miles.

I personally like to do oil changes at 5000 on conventional oil, and 10,000 with Full synthetic. But, to do that, I want a good filter. So i only go the 10K with Full Synthetic and a Mobil 1. I use Motorcraft filter with conventional oil to get 5000.

Why would one put a used oil filter on their vehicle? It looks like the filter did it's job and kept out the contaminates. Missapplication? What is with the hole in the shoes? :dunno:

I don't think anyone was consdering installing a USED filter on their vehicle. I think his intent was to show what the filter did and didn't do while it was installed. As far as these studies go, Anyone and everyone has cut open unsued filters. I would like to see someone and more of ones cut open after being used and see how they held up. Cut open the media like this guy did and see what was trapped in it. Of course to get a fair comparison, it should probably be done on the same engine with the same brand oil, and same amount of mileage between intervals. I know I wouldn't be happy to cut one open and see a collapesed element.
