Looks good sitting there, not seeing any salt and such.

your the only guy i know who would park a 4x4 in the winter and drive a 2wd s10.....

Live up here for one winter. Drive a nice truck in the winter, and then you'll see why we park them.
i understand that...i have had vehicles that came from up north...i know all about it...i'm just saying with the weather and snow you'all get it just seems odd to me to park a 4x4....but i understand with all the salt and sech....

I deal with the same salt here and I couldn't see parking my truck during the winter. I bought it to drive, not sit in the shed all winter.

Winterizing uh? Never lived with that. I'd do the same I suppose if I lived up north. Easier to prevent than repair, and I try to go that way as much as possible. Not always but in general. We had frost on the lawn this morning!!---First this year!! That's our "cold spell".
I guess one gets used to the cold. Wisconsin must be a great place if you're willing to put up with cold. It would be tough for me. I'm spoiled and kinda lazy/bad combo haha.

Lots of quotes here

I forgot to mention that besides saving money on gas, I'm also saving big time on insurance. Instead of costing $95 every 6 months, I'll pay $0.20 for every month it is in storage. So if I have it stored >6 or <6 months, the other $95 bill will reflect it. I'm just glad my rates weren't going to change :D. Oh, and its so cheap because my mom is on the truck with only liability. With me on both trucks, I'd be paying $400/6mo; twice what I'm paying now.
Man you dont realise how easy you guys have it there for insurance... My truck costs right now $4800 a year to insure. (1 accident) Even without the accident its still about $4000 a year to insure.

yea, same here it costs $2500 a year to insure my truck

Holy fWONk! I thought I was paying a lot at $1200 a year.

Wow. I knew I was in a cheaper insurance area but I didn't know it was that big of a difference. The $800/yr would only be for liability ($100k/$300k coverage). I have no idea what full coverage would be for me. I'm guessing $1.5k-2.5k.

Yes I agree it is a little backwards, but looking back, I probably only used the 4x4 in the winter maybe a dozen times. However, I didn't go into anything really deep or stuff like that.

i would just drive that truck, no offense i drove my 97 through winter just kept it clean and everything was solid on it when i sold it, but then again i would put it on the hoist at work and hose out everything underneath the truck too

I probably would drive it in the winter if I had the underside coated and could get under it to wash it off. Also it'd be different if it was in a garage year round. Until now, its been outside for just over 2yrs rain/snow/shine. No lift + parked outside = impossible to wash in the winter.

When I have a home of my own, there will be a 3+ car garage with a hoist and drainage so I can wash my vehicles inside during the winter.

I totally agree that if you keep a vehicle up north and keep the salt washed off it on a regular basis, it will last forever and you will hardly be able to tell that it is from the north. A good wax job coupled with washing and indoor parking make a world of a difference.

But if I stick all the money into it to fix it up back to factory condition and/or better, I'm definitely not going to drive it in the winter.

The problem is the salt getting places that you will never be able to clean it out. Thats what scares me. So its either park the thing you work hard for and spend lots of $$$ to make look nice. Or move somewhere warm with no road salt.
