I'd mount them behind the grille. The grille is easy to remove on that truck too... it would look a lot cleaner.
+1

Hmmmm......I never thought about that.
I like it!!!!
That would conceal them and they wouldn't stick out so much.

Where would you suggest going that route?

The grill takes 5 small bolts and 8 screws (to remove the parking lights). My grill has been off more times Chuck Norris has been made fun of.

I think pic one or two behind the grille would be sweet. I'd probably base my decision on where the best place was to mount the light brackets.

I kind of like #2 the best. It is in the middle (not too close to the head lights and not right under the bowtie).

How does this look (all I did was darken the lights with Microsoft Picture Manager and paste them into Paint)?

I'm gonna wait another 30 min and take a night shot of them. (so at 8, 9, 10, or 11 whichever time zone)

Hmm, now you got me thinking for some replacement DRL's since I ditched them with my HID's, did you rig them up and take a drive, I'm just curious how bright they are?

If you come up with a mount behind the grille take some pics. of the mount brackets, I may be doing something similar.
How do you plan to wire them, with an additional switch?

There are tons of cool LED lights available now. Since they use very little power and product little heat, they are great for DRLs.

Hey Matt. It would be cool if you took some pics and added a mini DIY thread here when you do it.

I don't think it is safe to drive with them since they were only wedged between the grill slots, but I will attempt to go out and take a night pic right now.

I will be using an additional switch that will be going in when I put in my painted dash. (which I have had NO time to put in and now have to replace a leaking axle seal first)

I'd be able to do that.

I'm just not promising anything any time soon. I just got the lights and am scoping out where to put them. Between working 5-6 days with 40+ hours and taking 2 summer classes (cramming 16 weeks of material into 8), I'm a little busy.

But, none the less, I love tinkering with stuff for my truck and find myself taking a lot of time for it.

I'm glad you guys actually like this idea. I though someone would have said "RICER!!!" by now.

Alright. Here are some night shots with them in position #2, but still in front of the grill, but I don't think being behind would make much of a difference.
(the ground was wet so the light really reflected off the blacktop).

I tried to take a pic standing next to the truck looking forwards, but cameras can't pickup on that low of light.

I was however able to clearly see a tree 36 feet away (I paced it off). Not bad for 24 LEDs without any lenses to focus them.

So these would be great DRLs or just for parking at home at night, but definitely not to be used as head lights by any means.
I think they'd look even better with some 5k HIDs.

That doesn't look bad, actually pretty good in fact, but I'd question if they have enough light output to really show up as DRLs. Also, it probably wouldn't hurt anything to check local laws that might affect light placement. The easiest way would probably be to just stop by the local police station during change of shift and ask a LEO coming off duty. Just explain what you want to accomplish and stress that you want to keep it legal and I think most LEO's would be wiling to spare a minute or two and give you their opinion. Might save you an unanticipated ticket later on. :)

All we have to worry about in Texas is light color. No red, blue, etc on the front. Bernie's suggestion might be worth checking into just to be sure there.
