GM pickups to adopt active grille louvers for fuel economy?

sounds like an interesting idea...

why not make some sort of baffle at the firewall to direct air either downward or upward over the windshield? this would let air flow through the engine bay, and yet direct it in such a way that it doesn't drag quite as much.

That would only really work while above certain speeds, idle would not provide enough airflow...

The Lincoln Mark VIII use to drop a whole 1" I think when it was up at cruising speed.

My wifes range rover dropped about 3" when at highway speeds... i thought that was pretty cool (until i had to replace the pump.. what a PITA).

Yeah, I was reading about this a while back.. I'll be curious to see how they implement it and what kind of overrides they have setup for it..

It looks like a good idea, but what happens when it fails? It should default to OPEN (like some of the new thermostats) when a failure occurs (like if the motors don't get a signal after 5 minutes, they should go to fully open).

I'm just going to keep my truck I don't have to deal with all that new electronics that are being installed and that will break after a while. I think it's a good idea that GM is looking at different things to improve in gas mileage. Hyundai is coming out with this when you start to fall asleep the seat belt will tug on you to wake you up I think it's a super idea. I wonder if GM will ever drop GMC or there Chev truck line?
