Here is the truck as it sits today.

This thing is in amazing shape for around here. The red paint is the original and no rust on cab at all. Bed floor is still good. Has been in storage since 1975.

I have a 1971 400 small block with a steel crank and 4 bolt mains. I'm looking at a scat rotating assembly. I have several big blocks but I think I'll do a real healthy small block for this one. Aluminum heads, a gear drive(pete jackson noisy), ford 9 inch, 4 wheel disc brakes, tci trans/converter, lots of sheetmetal work and replacement. Lets have some opinions!

Build was originally going to be a 66 long bed prostreet. Now it will still be a pro street but it will be a 63 short wide bed. Just got back from looking at a 63 short wide bed chevy. It has been in storage since 1975 and is in amazing shape. Luckily all the metal I ordered for the longbox will fit this truck. It doesnt need anything metal wise except the hood repaired. I posted in the local paper for parts for my 66 lb and this guy called tonight saying he had 3 60-66 chevy trucks. One is a 62 4x4 lb, the 63 I bought, and a 3/4 ton 2wd. Before we got back close to the sb, I knew when I left it would be mine. I was waiting to shell out $1500-$2000 considering the shape it's in. I asked him for what he wanted for it and he said, make me an offer. I said I dont like pricing another persons stuff and he said, how about $350...........I couldnt get the cash out fast enough. I have a rollback lined up for tomorrow morning to go get it and I'll post some pictures.

That thing will look mean as heck with some slicked up body work and a healthy small block in it. Sounds like a solid plan.

Are you going to do full steel body?

Your starting point is rougher than mine but they are solid trucks. I think a hot small block would be awesome.

Oh and I like your hood ornament...mines different but I wouldnt take it off for anything. They actually look good on these trucks

That looks like a solid truck! Once finished, that will be a nice ride. I also agree on a hopped up SBC would be right at home under the hood.

Looks like somebody has done some body part swapping at some point. Most likely to replace dented sheetmetal with good stuff. There is so much metal in those trucks, that they can be massaged into laser straight beauties! You need to take a lot of pictures and post the progress.

I have a set of aluminum tubs from a 69 camaro project I had and I'm thinkin to put a big fat tire on, these will be transplanted into the bed. The man I bought this from had it for 21 years and he did swap a lot of metal on it(doors, fenders, hood), It looks rougher in the pics then it actually is. It has been brush painted(sherwin williams special) and sanded and spray canned before. I have all new sheet metal on the way. I have 1 OEM NOS passenger side fender that a local GM dealership still had in there inventory. I'm going to pull the 400 out this week and drop it off for a magnaflux/steamclean. Then off to another machine shop for machine work.

 I am looking forward to this build!

I will have to agree with the 400 SBC. I am kinda partial to big cubic inch small blocks.

I wanted to go fiberglass on the front end and doors but i already have the new fender so I guess I'll go steel.
