What about texting? :jester:

Your voice broke?? :jester:

EDIT : Actually, to answer that more seriously, I doubt you can buy a phone that "can't" text these days.. A cheap txt msg package would more than cover me, though.. In the last 7 days (since my billing cycle started), there have only been 55 messages in and out of my phone. 38 were for work. That leaves 17 that I had something to do with.. 10 of those were when I was bored at the car dealership yesterday.. I think I have a $10 txt package that more than covers me for the month.. The $40 / month for internet on the phone, though, is not a "necessary" expense... :dunno:

Well, if it makes you feel any better Dark, cuz it won't me, but its a matter of having to do what you have to do. I let my 05 loaded leather ass warmers and all go for a Yota Rolla cuz of gas prices, and even though I was hooked up in the truck, I had to add the upside down to the payment fo the Yota, and I said hell NO. After I did the math and saw the differance in gas, and auto insurance, I thought, even with the added negative balance, I am better off cuz the car payment is almost free in the savings of gas and insurance. I had to do it. It sucked balls bad !!! So that is when I started collecing the 80's junk project trucks, jsut to have a truck, although not the best, it was still a truck., and it keeps me at home not spending money, since I stay home to work on the trucks.

That's very understandable. Thanks for sharing the story! I appreciate that!

Back around Christmas, I started looking at some things I'd like to do in 5 yrs, 10 yrs, etc. and I needed to free-up money in my monthly budget to start doing things with that money to grow it so that I can do those things..

There for a while, I was eating out (either fast food or sit-down) at least once a day, sometimes twice or three times a day.. I've cut fast food down to about once or maybe twice a week, if that.. Same goes for sit-down dining.. Actually, I've cut sit-down dining down to about 3 times a month.. I try to treat it more as something to do, rather than "I'm hungry and don't want to cook."

I've started shopping specials and stocking up on stuff when it's on sale. If pork is on sale and beef isn't, I eat pork for a while.. If chicken is on sell next time, I eat chicken for a while.. I cook at home a lot more, making batches of things when I can and freezing them for quick warm-ups for lunch, dinner, etc.. I spend more at the grocery store now than I used to, but I'm NOT wasting money on $1.89 large Cokes at Jack In The Box anymore...

I've trimmed my cellphone plan way down.. I'm figuring on getting just a cheap "it talks" phone, next go-around, instead of a nice phone with a data plan and all that jazz..

There's a ton of other things I've been nipping and tucking at...

Every little bit helps!

Man, are you single too??? You sound alot like me. Its rough in this economy to make it on a single person income. I live in a small 1500 sq ft 4 bedroom, 2 bath 2 car, bricked house with a fireplace in a large Cul de sac lot. Lucky for me I have been in this house for 11 years now, so the payment is now cheaper than I can rent a decent 2 bedroom apt for, and I would not have a yard for my toys, trucks and dogs, so I have to stay here anyway. But, living in a 4 bedroom house by myself is not as easy as it seems, its more cleaning, the huge yards to mow etc, its a lot of work for one person then the finances too. I don't eat out at all. I just do it right and like you, I stock up on sales, break it down, freeze it, and I don't get sick of anything, beacause, I stocked up last week, on say pork, this week stock up on beef, next week chicken, kinda like you do. Its just so much cheaper to eat at home. My bad habit is Pepsi, it was on sale for .59 cents a 2 liter here for 2 weeks. I stop at the store on the way to work, and on the way back from work, and buy 8 two liters, so that was 16 a day every other day for 2 weeks, just to be stocked up. Cereal goes on sale for a $1.66 a box (3 for $5), or $1.25 (4 for $5), I buy the hell out of it, like 12 boxes or $20 worth, then I don't have to buy it for a couple months, and when I get down to 4 boxes, then I start watching the sales again, to stock up again before I run out. Its not hard to do, just takes a bit of planning. Sounds like you are very similar in cutting cost methods. I do that, to have funds to put the toys together. Most of my trucks have paid for themselves thogh too. I have collected 6 of these 80-86 trucks, and total cost to buy all of them was $1000, 2 of them for $100 each, and 4 of them for $200 each. Now, some of them were parts to put other together, but of the 6 I intend to have 4 drivers, and whats left of the other 2 will be sold. Its not only about saving the money or lack of money, thats part of the challenge to me. To see what type of vehicle for the least aound of money. This ugly 84 that I drive daily now, not joke, other than my time invested, the truck has paid me to own it. This is my 2wd 3/4 ton truck with the Turbo 400, rebuilt 454 and full float rear end. Its ugly, needs minor dings and dents fixed, and paint. It has a spot of rust on it about the size of a 50 cent piece in the passneger door. Sometime, I'll explain how its not only a free truck, but it has paid me to own it, other than my time involved. And thats the challege I like.

I've got ANOTHER comment....

Darling Wife and I met him for supper tonight.

He has a very nice car and he took us for a ride in it.
It will grab 90 mph real quick...even with 3 people in it.
I like the way it runs.

But... "NOT ONE TIME" did he offer to let poor ol' Dad drive it.

NOT ONE TIME.... :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I figured *I* had scared mom bad enough... Who knows what you would've done! :jester:

Are you kidding? We know what he'd have done:lol:

Yep! Single, too.

You mentioned Pepsi. I rotate what I drink, based on what's been on sale recently. I prefer Coca Cola. But, the local store seems to run DP and Pepsi on sale a lot more than Coke. So, I drink whatever's on sale.. .59 cent 2 liters!? About the cheapest they get around here is .89! I've developed a pretty bad iced tea habit, too... A box of tea bags and the number of pitchers of iced tea I can make seems a lot cheaper per-drink than the Cokes, Dr Peppers, or Pepsis... :dunno:

I should've been in this planning mode when I bought this house... (I probably would've bought a lot less house, if I had been... 3-2-2 brick with a fairly small yard, but big enough for a dog or two, in a subdivision.) But, I wasn't.. and I've only been in this place for a little less than 2 yrs. As you well know, at this point in a mortgage, you pay SQUAT to the principal of the loan, each month.

So, what I've been trying to do is free-up every last cent I can to 1) build-up a nest egg to cover me for 6 months or so IF I happen to get laid off and then 2) KNOCK THE HELL out of my mortgage balance. The eventual goal is to get this sucker paid WAY DOWN (or off!), so that I can start looking to buy a place either in the mountains of Colorado or at least a heck of a lot closer for easier day-drivers TO the mountains! When I get the savings built-up, I should be able to start making some good dents in the balance on the loan... We'll see how long it takes to pay it off.. I guess that's my challenge. "See how quick I can pay this SOB off!"

Thanks for sharing, man! I appreciate it!

Actually, thanks to EVERYONE who hasn't made trading the truck off the "WTF did you do that for, a-hole!?" ordeal I thought it might be!

Oh! And I am curious how those trucks are paying for themselves... Maybe I can get the Subie to do that for me! (That'd be a lot of paying, though!)

Most of us understand there comes a time when you have to sit back and re-think your goals and priorities,if eliminating a money drain needs to be done,it gets done. There are much more important things in life than driving around in a big expensive truck.I salute you for taking that step....most guys can't critisize you for doing what's best for you
