I was busy and didn't have a chance to update, but i took the truck in to the dealer on friday for the DEF system maintenance countdown and CEL. When I dropped it off the service writer said "it's probably just the DEF tank heater, we've had to replace a few of those". Well, she called about 4:30 on friday..."It's not the DEF tank heater, and we don't what the actual problem is yet. It'll be at least monday at this point."

Whee.
Joy... That's one thing I was surprised about mine... The DEF system never gave me any trouble, lol.

Hopefully they find out the problem, soon!

Was your DEF filled all the way, and then parked outside at well below freezing?

It was about half full when it first happened. Temps at the time were between 5 and 25F. It warmed up significantly after that though and it never recovered. I'm super interested to see what they say. I need to get off my ass and buy a new code reader. I would love to know what the codes were.
Sometimes, when it freezes, it needs to fill all the way up to reset... But dealerships problem, lol.

I knew it was half full because I topped it off when it first started...I meant to say that, sorry :)
Ahhh, if I remember right, if you have access to an autocal, EFILive can read DEF level... For the next time, lol.
Hopefully just a computer reset is all you need.

The DEF system is crap. Lol. Not what it does, just the design.

Knock on wood, I have had no issues with my DEF tank, so far. The level system is pathetic, and this is based on several years' of already established gauges and displays for fluid level already on the market. WTF? So, now I wait until the level gets down to 25%, which is the first time you get a reading other than "OK"

Between that, and no idiot light to tell me the damn thing is in a regen, really is a let-down. The truck's features do no lack in any other way (IMO) except for these 2 things.

That's the only reason I had to take mine in... I had to force a service regen... I shut the truck off during a regen... I suggest against that, lol.

Yeah, I'd be hard pressed to come up with another shortcoming outside the emissions system right now. The truck is amazing. I will say though that's those problems aren't limited to GM.

I had a VW sportwagen TDI...It didn't have urea because they didn't actually give a **** about the emissions, but the you didn't get notifications of it's regens either, outside of the lovely burning plastic smell from time to time.

My buddy's dad had a diesel BMW not too long ago that had enough problems with reading the urea tank level that it stranded hit in limp mode a couple of times. this shit is all new...none of them have perfected it yet.

re: shutting off during regen...that's weird that it caused a problem. both my jetta and my truck will just pick it up the next time i drove it.

My truck is a 2011... My DPF was probably close to the end of its service life, making it more of a problem.

Emissions are the trucks only real weak point. The CP4 issue is more common up here than in the US, so I wouldn't worry terribly about that one. The TCM failure is mostly a 2011/2012 issue.

Mine gets shut down regularly during regen cycles. Sometimes multiple times in one day. There is no way around it. I need a way to force a regen.

See that's the thing, if I knew it had started the cycle early on in the drive, as opposed to the obvious high idle when I park, I might be able to extend my drive and complete the cycle. During a work day, it is hard to accommodate and extra trip around the city to finish a cycle

My H&S can trigger regen cycles... It'll kick in next drive cycle.
