I wonder if that has the same steering column and interlock as my 01. :dunno: I know 98-02 have the same steering wheel, but I wonder if the whole column is the same. I will look at mine and let yo know what or if I find anything. It will be this evening before I get a chance though.

Visually hers looks the same as mine, but who knows about the internals.Any help is greatly appreciated Scotty  But now I have to go pick up a new MM since my old one(of at least 15 yrs.) took a dump.

I know for sure that the 95-97 steering columns are slightly different from the 98-99 ones. I know that from my alarm install experience. In 98, they started using the Passlock anti theft system which has a different ignition switch setup and all compared to the 95-97 models. I know the steering wheels are slightly different too. The 95-97 ones have a slightly larger airbag.

Sounds like GM made a few changes for '98.I believe Justin can't do a ''tune'' on anything older than a '98 (IIRC).

OK,so I'm back from picking up a nice little MM from Kragen/O'reilly for $20.00.It even has a continuity beeper...love that. Now since I'm back home I thought I'd try Park to see what happens.Well it works fine.I tried it maybe 20-25 times and it worked perfect each time.I can hear a distinctive click in the column at the gearshift like Matt mentioned and the lever moved effortlessly...I just wonder if maybe wifey put it in Park before she had completely stopped and put extra pressure on the parking pawl in the tranny.I remember pulling on it a little harder than normal the other night.

I don't know,I think I'm gonna leave it alone for now..can't fix it if it's working like it's supposed to.At least I got a new MM outta this :D

Thanks for the help guys

It's been my habit for the past 30 years, and something I've now got the wife doing, to put the parking brake on before putting the vehicle in park, and to take it off only after putting it in drive. Saves a lot of wear & tear on the linkage, makes shifting out of park on hills much easier, and can help save the drivetrain if you get hit while parked.

Well I didn't get a chance to look at mine, its been cold and raining here all damn day.

At least its working like normal now. My brothers 95 did the same thing. It would act up once every blue moon. He never did get it repaired, probably because it never got to the point of being permanantly locked.

That's so true.Roger reminded me I asked this same thing a couple of years ago on GMT,so it's been that long since the prob last occurred.I showed wifey what to listen for.The click is very noticeable...my Burb is much louder :D
