Onboard air is perfect for offroading. That way you can air down when you hit the rocks or sand, then air back up when you get back to hard surface roads. My cousin and I built a bumper that served as an "air tank" when I was in high school for this very reason.

thats a great idea  if i didnt have a large amount of space between my frame rails and sides of the cab i would do one of those

I don't have anything on yet but in spring will be putting on airbags with a compressor.

On our work trucks (1 tons) before we even take delivery of them we have them add an extra leaf to the pack. I have never noticed any of the trucks riding worse than an average 1 ton but they are also loaded 24/7 with 3-4k sometimes more depending on whose truck it is.

i had bags and compressor on a 85 k5 blazer... i didnt figure they would last like they did..... but they took a beating... off roaded and everything .. never had a problem... i had to replace the compressor twice..(always just bought the cheapest one i could find).. but you could also just fill them up without the onboard air..

had overload springs on a 89 suburban...and ehy id an amazing job..but they rode like crap...
also had a set of homade coil springs.. on a 1 ton chevy... they were coil springs off the front of a 1ton chevy and made mounts and brakets to place on rear end on top of the leaf springs... it was a 1 ton truck so didnt care about a ride
