buy the Tri-fold Hard Tonneau Cover
remote key start

And have the dealership install those or should I buy them online and have someone else install those?

Suggestions please.

The GM doesn't come with remote start? That is odd. You can have them install the GM remote start if its a GM dealer, or you can get aftermarket at a stereo store. I like the GM since it is plug and play, no splicing into harnesses. It does not offer the range that the aftermarket ones do though

As for the tonneau, its a love/hate thing. I always ended up hating them, just like canopies. I will never buy either again. To answer your question; have them quote you, and let us know what they say

RE: Range on the remote start...

If you go with the GM one, it connects to OnStar. If, within the first 3 months of buying the new GM vehicle, you install and use the OnStar app with your vehicle, you can remote start it via the app from anywhere you have an internet access. Same goes for locking & unlocking, too.

You do not need to maintain an active OnStar subscription for that to continue working. I only had the 90 trial subscription when I got mine, but I'm still able to remote start my truck via the app from pretty much anywhere.

That has come in real handy when we're having 100+ degree temperatures. It automatically starts up the AC, etc.

OH! And if you get Navigation in the vehicle, you can send directions to the in-dash nav from the OnStar app. (For Chevy's, the app is now called MyChevy. I'm not sure what it's called for GMC, Cadillac, or Buick.)

Anytime I'm meeting up with my dad at a new place to eat, I'll shoot the address to the truck before I even go outside. It's much quicker to do it from the app than jacking with the touch screen on the Nav.

RE: Tonneaus, I doubt I'll ever get another one. And if I ever do the bed liner thing again, I'll probably get a spray in not the GM branded drop-in that came with mine. What a piece o' junk that thing is...

Thanks Michael. I did not want to go into it :D I wasn't sure what year she was going for.
Yes we use the app on both of ours, it is nice. When I flew into Anchorage that last time in the winter, it was -30, and I let her off when the wheels hit the tarmac.

I thought she had been talking about new, but... :dunno:

For all I know, she could be talking about Fords by now, though.

I was surprised about the features on the app and that I didn't have to keep an OnStar subscription going. I know you get more info with a subscription, but it's not worth the $$ to me to get those extra features.

I am buying a 2017 Chevy Silverado either the LT Z71 or the LTZ Z71. Still trying to decide that part.

The remote key start is 125
The hard tri cover is 1,000 plus

Thank you for that very clear and specific advice. I appreciate it. I guess I will get the Chevy dealership to add the remote start.

So if none of you recommend the cover. What other brands are there that I can add to the truck. I will need it because I leave some stuff in the back of my SUV so I will need to buy a cover sooner rather than later. Can I have the chevy dealerships add the connections for when I do purchase a cover from another brand maker?

Thank you!

You're welcome!

Just make sure if you want to use the remote start with the app that they install the GM Remote Start and not some aftermarket thing.

I think the advice on the cover was a general statement, not specifically about the one you mentioned.

IF you plan to leave stuff in the bed a lot and you want to that stuff covered / concealed, so people don't "know" you have stuff back there, I'd suggest an aftermarket one. They'll be cheaper and you'll have more choices.

I liked the way mine looked and I never had any problems with it, but I had stuff in the bed so rarely (pretty much only on road trips). So, I'm not sure it was really worth the $$. So far, I have not spent that $$ on this truck. :dunno:

But, everyone has different needs.
