The BakFlip G2 is something a lot of folks get, and I believe it's cheaper than the GM one. Haven't heard much bad about it...

Make sure you get the locking tailgate no matter which way you go, lol

I am buying a 2017 Chevy Silverado either the LT Z71 or the LTZ Z71. Still trying to decide that part.

The remote key start is 125
The hard tri cover is 1,000 plus

I've been looking at new trucks as well. As for the bed cover. I found it less expensive by $200 from Amazon than from the dealer. Easy to install.

Thank you for that very clear and specific advice. I appreciate it. I guess I will get the Chevy dealership to add the remote start.

So if none of you recommend the cover. What other brands are there that I can add to the truck. I will need it because I leave some stuff in the back of my SUV so I will need to buy a cover sooner rather than later. Can I have the chevy dealerships add the connections for when I do purchase a cover from another brand maker?

Thank you!

You're welcome!

Just make sure if you want to use the remote start with the app that they install the GM Remote Start and not some aftermarket thing.

I think the advice on the cover was a general statement, not specifically about the one you mentioned.

IF you plan to leave stuff in the bed a lot and you want to that stuff covered / concealed, so people don't "know" you have stuff back there, I'd suggest an aftermarket one. They'll be cheaper and you'll have more choices.

I liked the way mine looked and I never had any problems with it, but I had stuff in the bed so rarely (pretty much only on road trips). So, I'm not sure it was really worth the $$. So far, I have not spent that $$ on this truck. :dunno:

But, everyone has different needs.

For the cover I want to make sure that no one will break into it and steal myself out of it. I won't be leaving valuables in it like my camera. Mostly workout gear and towels possibly emergency gear incase I am stranded.

When I went to check out the truck on Sunday the dealer mentioned the remote key start could work with the app on my phone so I did think that was cool.

I was surprised about the [send to built-in Nav] features on the app and that I didn't have to keep an OnStar subscription going. I know you get more info with a subscription, but it's not worth the $$ to me to get those extra features.

BTW, with a recent update, it seems they have made it so the "navigation" part of the MyChevrolet app only works with an OnStar subscription. Actually, damn near everything in the app now says "call to get an OnStar subscription."

You (or at least *I*) can still remote start/stop and remote lock/unlock the truck with the app. But, they killed the "send to nav" features. F'rs...

I guess I'll have to get creative on sending directions to the truck now.

I've never used the navigation on my truck. I did sign up for On star but the cheapest ones.

I hardly ever use Nav for directions. (I use it for Nav Traffic Data all the time, though, on my commute.) Last night, I needed to pick someone up from a place I had never been. So, I opened the app, tapped Navigation, and it wanted me to sign up for OnStar. :nono:

It worked the way it was supposed to for 2+ years and then they go and change it. :pfingers: to them.
