Towed a 6'x10' semi-enclosed (its that steel, expanded wire stuff; no top to it) trailer to help move a friend. Had to go over a couple hills, but took it nice and slow and let the truck go at its own pace.
Even with just the empty trailer, the truck drives differently. I blame it on the fact that the sides of the trailer are 3" higher than the truck = lots of wind resistance.

Was that your first time pulling a trailer?
Nope. I just didn't feel like pushing the truck and I wan't in a hurry. It was 45 minutes one way with the trailer full. I had one windy hill to go up (about 30to 35 mph) and one straight hill (about 55 to 60). I got a run at them and kept my momentum up as much as I could. The truck wasn't running hot at all (even with 80 deg. air temp and 90% humidity). I could see my temp gauge (as inaccurate as it may be) fluctuate downwards. I've towed 6,000lbs for 3 1/2 hours on the interstate before (not in OD).

My trans got kinda toasty towing a 5 - 6k lb trailer to Jasper... The shift knob was warm
Couldn't really touch the bottom of the shifter...

I'm thinking I need to build myself an oil pump/cooling setup for it...

Just get a big trans cooler for it. No need to rig something up yourself

Do they sell kits for manual transmissions?

Finally replaced the factory bumpstops with some from Energy Suspension that were smaller and a little easier on the ride. Made a huge difference in ride. It's like a stock ride all over again.

I'm sure they do as long as the transmission has fittings on it (like the 4L60E) for an AUX cooler. If you don't have the fittings/holes, you might be SOL.

I was going 60mph not in OD and there weren't any steep hills so I figured I had good air flow over my stock trans cooler and that the pump was circulating the fluid at a sufficient rate. If it would have been stop & go traffic, it would have been another story.

My dream is to rebuild the engine, trans, and then fix any body problems (basically redo the entire truck). Whenever I get around to this, in the next century, I'm putting in a big trans cooler and a trans temp gauge.

Went rummage sale-ing this morning.

Went to work early and wiped it down, and cleaned the windows, then went for some lunch and home.

4L60E is an automatic, he has a manual. Manuals don't have pumps, so a cooler would be pretty useless since there'd be no flow through it.
