G/f came home from a doctors appointment and said the A/C in the Dakota wasn't working. Since I put a brand new compressor in it just two years ago I wasn't thrilled with that news. Hooked up the gauges and there was no pressure either side, so obviously there was a leak. Got out the UV light (I added dye when I filled the system after changing the compressor) but couldn't see any spots so I started adding some 134a with more dye. Pressures started coming up but still no sign of a leak. Used up what was left in that can (about 3oz) and headed to Napa for more. Got two more 12oz cans and added one, then the second, but couldn't get pressures over 200/45. Shut off the engine and then I could hear the leak... Right at the connection for the condenser, where the orifice goes.

It'll have to wait now until next payday (Friday after next) since I need a new vacuum pump (my old one got knocked off the shelf by the cat and broke) to draw down the system, and more 134a. I have plenty of green O-rings for the system, so that's no sweat.
Well, at least it doesn't appear to be a major failure.

Yeah, when she said it I figured it was either a compressor clutch failure or that the system leaked. I was hoping it'd be a leak, and not one in a major component (like a condenser) or difficult to reach area (back of the accumulator is a bitch to get to) so I was pretty happy, even with losing $12 worth of freon. It doesn't get much easier to work on than that fitting, since it's right up front with nothing blocking it.

On my truck... just finished polishing all the lenses on the lights and lightbars. Love that Novus polishing system... all the lenses look brand new now. :D

Drove it to the dealership and test drove a 6.2L half ton GMC. :naughty:

I think a truck with that engine will more than satisfy my right foot.

can you imagine a 6.2L half ton with 3.73 gearing!

I told you you'd like it :jester:

That steep first gear really gets it moving!

With a 3.73, even the 5.3 gets up and moves (yes, I drove a 5.3 with a 6 speed and 3.73s :lol)
