Seems like one of those would be enough for a truck. :dunno:

Nah, you can never have too many radios in a mobile command post. :)

Top one is an Icom-706MKIIG, which is 100 watts (1500 with the amp) and covers all frequencies from 1.8mhz to 470mhz (160m - 70cm) in AM/FM/WFM/CW (morse code)/RTTY (radio teletype)/SSB and various packet modes. The next one down is a Yeasu FT-2900, which covers 138-150mhz and 430-450mhz (2m and 70cm) at 75 watts in FM and packet modes, the next one down is a standard Cobra 19DXIV CB, the one after that is a Radio Shack PRO-2050 trunking scanner that covers just about all frequencies and modes, and the bottom is a Yaesu FT-60 handheld that does double duty as a full scanner and 2m-70cm transceiver at 5 watts.

With this setup I'll be able to cover all amateur, public service, aircraft, marine, police and fire, and military frequencies on receive, and most of those on transmit as well and have true world-wide communications capability from the truck, including satellite communications.

I still need some additional antennas, and some 1.2ghz+ gear, but it's coming together nicely.

Total cost so far is just under $2,000

And, in case you're wondering why all the communications equipment, it's because I'm a member of the Stafford County EmComm Team LINK HERE and the truck is being fitted out to operate as an auxiliary mobile command center.

Fwonking UPS didn't show up until 6:30PM, and then I found out that half the parts I needed were on back order, and one of the items shipped today has parts missing!

Just sent the company an email, telling them that they probably just lost me as a future customer for not informing me beforehand that the order would be incomplete and giving me the chance to cancel it and buy what I needed elsewhere.

Damn Bernie, that sucks. There's nothing I hate more than starting, or planning to start, a project and not having the parts to finish.

CJ, how long has your trans been leaking? Glad to hear it is covered though!

Drove the S10 to school, work, home. Really exciting......

Last night, I was getting onto the interstate with a Harley behind me. I should note that I had the S10. I heard him accelerate and figured he wasn't getting on with me. I was wrong. He cranked it wide open and went flying by me on my left side (on a 1-lane on-ramp); pretty sure his girlfriend was on the back. I was PISSED!!!! I floored it in 3rd (which the 4.3 doesn't have the power I needed) up to about 65 and went to 5th. I got up to 80, caught up to him and blew my FWONKING horn at him for like 15 sec. Then I dropped back a little and he slowed down too. The kicker was he took the same off ramp I did. To my surprise, he passed ANOTHER car on the right at a stop sign. So this guy obviously does this a lot. I want to point out that the weather wasn't bad at all so there was no "natural" reason to rush home. If I would have had the Silverado, I'd have caught up to him faster and made a better point. --- I realize this isn't the way to drive and was not the right thing to do, but after having class for 5.5 hrs and then working for another 7 hrs, it felt good to let off steam. --- This guy is the reason motorcycle riders get a bad reputation.
