Seems like one of those would be enough for a truck.
Nah, you can never have too many radios in a mobile command post.
Top one is an Icom-706MKIIG, which is 100 watts (1500 with the amp) and covers all frequencies from 1.8mhz to 470mhz (160m - 70cm) in AM/FM/WFM/CW (morse code)/RTTY (radio teletype)/SSB and various packet modes. The next one down is a Yeasu FT-2900, which covers 138-150mhz and 430-450mhz (2m and 70cm) at 75 watts in FM and packet modes, the next one down is a standard Cobra 19DXIV CB, the one after that is a Radio Shack PRO-2050 trunking scanner that covers just about all frequencies and modes, and the bottom is a Yaesu FT-60 handheld that does double duty as a full scanner and 2m-70cm transceiver at 5 watts.
With this setup I'll be able to cover all amateur, public service, aircraft, marine, police and fire, and military frequencies on receive, and most of those on transmit as well and have true world-wide communications capability from the truck, including satellite communications.
I still need some additional antennas, and some 1.2ghz+ gear, but it's coming together nicely.
Total cost so far is just under $2,000
And, in case you're wondering why all the communications equipment, it's because I'm a member of the Stafford County EmComm Team
LINK HERE and the truck is being fitted out to operate as an auxiliary mobile command center.
