Nice job on the HID's Matt.
Thanks. I can't wait to get them in and see how bright they are. Hopefully the TYC Elegante lenses are as great as other guys say they are (supposedly great for reducing glare) :fingersx:.

I ordered the HIDs at 12:45pm and they are already shipped. No estimated arrival date yet. Hopefully by Fri or Sat. Then I would be able to install them this weekend along with the LEDs.

If anyone can help me with the 4-High mod for GMT-400's or a couple of other wiring questions, PLEASE PM me.

About that "4-High" mod... I assume you're talking about having the all the lights, high beams and low beams, come on when you turn on the high beams? Unless the truck was originally designed for that it's illegal under Federal law.

Code of Federal Regulations
Title 49, Volume 5

TITLE 49--TRANSPORTATION

CHAPTER V--NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC
SAFETY ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION

PART 571_FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS--Table of Contents

Subpart B_Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards

Sec. 571.108 Standard No. 108; Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

S5.5.9 Except as provided in section S5.5.8, the wiring harness or
connector assembly of each headlamp system shall be designed so that
only those light sources intended for meeting lower beam photometrics
are energized when the beam selector switch is in the lower beam
position, and that only those light sources intended for meeting upper
beam photometrics are energized when the beam selector switch is in the upper beam position.

Some cars and trucks did come factory equipped where both sets of lights came on when the high beams were activated, but those were specifically designed with high beams that didn't cover the full area, so that the low beams "filled in" the area that needed to be illuminated that the high beams didn't. The vast majority of cars and trucks though have high beams that do fill in both the high beam area and the low beam area, and having the low beams come on also increases the light output in those overlapping areas beyond the Federal limits, hence the reason why the code specifically forbids having both high and low beams on unless the system is designed (and approved by DOT) to have no overlap between the beams.

Thanks for the info Bernie. I can always count on you for cover. BTW, where do you get all this stuff so quickly and easily?

None the less, I'm not worried about it since the highs will only be able to be used when no one is around (so not on the interstate or in town; and only on rural highways and back-country roads). Plus with the lows, I don't know if I'll even need to use them much (except for those early morning hunting expeditions during turkey and deer hunting).

In addition to possibly being illegal with quad-highs (which my dad's old '86 Dodge Caravan had; went to junk yard with factory high sealed-beam lights), I'll be illegal with HIDs too (I think you posted something about that earlier or on another HID thread). That's why I ordered the TYC Elegante lenses to reduce glare and I'll have to aim them down pretty far. I've seen ricers driving around with worse halogen bulbs (in terms of blue-ness) and aimed WAY too high going down the interstate before.
