I am so pleasantly surprised that the Bose in the 15 and newer rigs is better than the prior editions. I upgraded my 07 and 09 for a hefty cost, but they needed it. My truck and the wife's rig have a respectable system

The only thing that really bugs me about the one in the truck is the nav and some other things seems slow / laggy. The stereo SOUNDS good. But, the actual dang head unit can be frustrating to deal with at times.

But, I'm not going to spend $3k to replace what's in the truck. There are other things that $$ could go towards.

Oh, I totally agree! That is what I was talking about in the first post. That Pioneer is fast, clear, and intuitive. The GM is very clunky.
It does sound good, though

The 3 grand is subjective; but when you add it up, it adds up quick. A decent HU is $500 minimum. 5 channel amp $500. Minimum for speakers, $1000. Adapters for harness, amp bypass, Onstar, etc $500. Labor to install....you get what I mean

Yeah, I get what you're meaning.

If I could replace the truck's for about a grand, reuse the speakers, and get a similar sound to what it currently has, I'd be ok with that. I may look into some options after the truck is paid off.

If the speakers are like the previous iteration, you will have a hard time. The speaks, tweets, and sub all had different impedance. 1, 2, and 3 ohm. It's crazy!

Getting around all the adapters, 3 needed (at least) to make everything work is what makes it so bad.

I am almost certain that the sub might be in the door(s) now. Have you or Karl noticed this? @geektoad

Gotcha! Thanks for the info! When I get closer to time, I'll dig in, hit some sites, and do some more research. It's just way down the list for the moment.

Ain't on my list at all. I am not going down that road ever again, I hope :D2

Even the wife says she is in love with the factory radio in her GMC.

The Ford was a no brainer. Fleet truck with basic system. It had to go :D2

I'm in the same boat re: the stock system in my truck. It's damn good as it stands. Definitely not worth the scratch to upgrade.

I'm not sure where the sub is in the new ones, but i'm pretty certain it's not in the center console. when I first got my '14 half ton, I automatically started look at stereo stuff and found that JL couldn't put their stealth box in the center due to space limitations. They started building them as a unit under the back seat and....f*ck that. That gave me the time to listen to the stereo for a while and realize that i didn't really need to upgrade the sound. The interface blows for sure, but they got the sound down :)
