Solid reviews, man. You've been through a lot of those. If I ever get the time to get back into mountain biking I'm going to have to look into those.

Sorry to bring back up an old thread... but here is my method for hauling my girlfriend and my bikes in the bed of my truck.

Made all from PVC Pipe i found the instructions by doing a google search for PVC Truck Bike Rack.

All in all probably cost about 30 bucks.

Still have to paint it, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've used my bike rack in the hitch before with nothing in the bed.

I don't have any other way to carry them without throwing them in the bed and letting them get thrown around. Not about to do that with a $1000 bike (more with friends' bikes), especially when I have paid $200 for a nice hitch rack. I got the hitch rack back when I had a Ranger, which didn't have room for 4 bikes.

Don't be so quick to judge.
