It was just easier to skip the intermediate step of the HD gasser...

I don't know, I think maybe you are still under-trucked. Maybe you should get an F650? Or a semi? That's a pretty big trailer you have there. [emoji38]
To be fair.... I was exceeding the towing capacity of my old truck by over 2000lbs...

But if I get a bigger one, it's going to be a T880 :D2

Trailer needs to be a 5th wheel. Looks funny being towed by a dually. :)
But that's cargo space for firewood [emoji38]

Then you better be hauling 6' logs in there as fire wood. [emoji38]
8 foot logs ;)

I was leaving room for the chain saw and camp fire gear. :)

What do you mean? I bet that trailer has a tongue weight of at least 200 lbs. [emoji38]
1000lbs tongue weight, with the quad and a full tank of gas, going by the average of 10% of the GVW being tongue weight.

2007 Extended cab 2wd Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 has a max towing capacity of 7700lbs. Trailer is 7400 dry...

It hauled it, but the transmission was not happy, the shocks wore out fast, and it could only manage 7.5 MPG (US)

I totally get the need for an HD for that. I just like giving you shit for getting a 1-ton dually for a bumper-pull trailer. :jester:

Pretty sure a 3/4 ton with a Duramax could do that job without even breaking a sweat.

Easily, but I need a long box, and those are sold the same day they get on the lot [emoji38]

And I make extra money at work with the truck... Win - win

I finally just quit fucking around.
So I take it you tried to get a 1/2 ton to do what ultimately a 3/4 ton does? Remind me, what did you have before?

I think what he was saying is that he tried getting by with a 3/4 ton truck with a 1/2 ton equivalent engine and ultimately discovered that the diesel was extremely more adequate when towing more than average.

I now have a '14 3500hd diesel and a '15 2500hd gas. While they both have 4.10 gearing and the gasser does local maintenance, it sucks on road trips towing or empty. I've taken the gas truck to Ohio to buy a car and to Pennsylvania to buy a boat, the towing experience would be more enjoyable if I had taken the diesel.

I get about 10-14 with the gas empty or pulling no more than 5000lbs. The diesel dump truck with LML dpf and def gets 10-16 empty or towing up to 20k lbs.

If I pull 8-10k in the gasser, my fuel mileage is down to 7-8.
