Not just anybody can bolt cars together Tobias! It takes a skil... it takes a prof...it takes an educa.... never mind :D

Well, it takes at least a high school diploma....

but where else can a high school education earn such fucking high hourly wages and lucrative benefits? For example, how can forklift operators in the auto industry be entitled to over $100k per year when the the national average is less than a third of that??? :wtf:
If we didn't have to pay for such :bs:, we'd at least level the playing field when it comes to factory wages compared to the "foreign" makes... and allow the domestic dealers to be a bit more competitive on the selling price to boot.

The U.S. automakers are making an average of $39.00 an hour for all pay and benefits, the foreign ones are averaging $35.00 an hour for pay and benefits. Figure that they work 40 a week, 52 weeks a year and that brings the total to just over $81k a year. Slightly less than the over $100k entitlement.

Even so, $60K + benefits is a lot for a fork truck driver, bolt screwer, floor sweeper, etc. Management, okay, but the average worker who may not even have a diploma??? That's a lot of money.

That almost $8K more than the median household income in this country.

That's a union.. striking their jobs out of America and making their company less competitive in the mean time.

Senior management gets big bonuses because they make big decisions. Just because your an American doesn't mean your entitled to big pay and benefits. Ford has to compete (keyword) with car makers from around the globe..having simple line workers making a lot of money is not feasible like it was in the 60's.

I'd like to see some facts to back that up. That is a LOT less than I've seen in print for UAW union worker pay.

I assure you that there is a lot more difference between the union and non union shops.

The United Autoworkers Union has worked hard to create high paying jobs for their members. According to the Indianapolis Star, base wages average about $28 an hour. The average reaches $39.68 an hour, including base pay, cost-of-living adjustments, night-shift premiums, overtime, holiday and vacation pay. Health-care, pension and other benefits average another $33.58 an hour, bringing the total compensation to $61.58 to $73.26 per hour.
