I would throw airbags on and "risk" a 300# overgross, but that is just me.

I have overloaded every single truck I have owned, with a bit of common sense and the right equipment. Not advocating any dangerous methods, here, but 300# is doable.

fWONk the haters that may now rage.

All that said, if it is going to grow to 1000# over after you fill it with water, people, gear, etc, then you may want to seriously seek out another solution.

Believe me if it was 300lbs over with people, water, and gear then I would not even blink either.

I'm 265# the woman is 150# to 160# and the boy is over 100#. Water weighs 8# per gallon and then all the other crap we would have...

I am just worried about an accident on the road and the insurance company using that as an excuse to refuse coverage.

Travel Trailer, for sure. You get the added benefit of being able to go places while camping as well, if need be, without packing everything up and securing shit.

I don't want a travel trailer because I want the benefit of being able to go and camp into places that the trailer would never be able to go into.

I have camped in the bed of my truck with a camper shell on it and it is much better than a tent especially when it is raining or snowing.

Truck camper is more suited to the overlanding/camping I want to do.

I am thinking a 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0/6-speed 4x4 truck would fit the bill...

Basically,

After camping in the back like this I realized how much nicer it is than a tent and a truck camper would be camping in luxury while still letting me get into more places than the travel trailer would.
