I would throw airbags on and "risk" a 300# overgross, but that is just me.
I have overloaded every single truck I have owned, with a bit of common sense and the right equipment. Not advocating any dangerous methods, here, but 300# is doable.

All that said, if it is going to grow to 1000# over after you fill it with water, people, gear, etc, then you may want to seriously seek out another solution.
Believe me if it was 300lbs over with people, water, and gear then I would not even blink either.
I'm 265# the woman is 150# to 160# and the boy is over 100#. Water weighs 8# per gallon and then all the other crap we would have...
I am just worried about an accident on the road and the insurance company using that as an excuse to refuse coverage.
