Transmission fluid, what's your running temp?

stalls make that shit go up quick! lol... if you start foot braking.. and dont have a decent cooler.. WATCH OUT!! LOL.

Hence the trans cooler the size of a small child.

And that's a size 10 boot, just for a size reference.

Well according to TCI and B&M as long as your fluid temps reach 100 degrees your fine. That is the operating temp the fluid must reach. My fluid temps towing are around 165. About 150 when unloaded. Also temps over 180 and your fluid is on the decline as far as effectiveness goes. Unless of course its synthetic. Then I am not sure as the specs are a little sketchy. The synthetic fluid is supposed to hold 250 degrees. But the clutchs and eveything else in the transmission will be cooked by then.

Normal driving I see ~195*. When I head up to my shooting spot it always hits at least 215*, 226* was the highest I have seen and as soon as I seen it I pulled over to let it cool.

My trucks trans cooler is a tiny little bugger.

I read this thread tonight while I was bored at the racetrack and made a point of switching to the tranny temp gauge on the drive home just to watch where it sat, then I completely forgot to look at the gauge the entire way home. Believe it or not this was before I started drinking

Mine usually stays between 145 to 170 depending on how I'm driving and the time of year. Those GM tranny's run HOT compared to the Ford ones.

I think a lot of it depends on where they pick up the fluid temp on the trans. Anything under 240 is actually not hot enough to hurt the properties of the fluid but we all like them to run cooler than that. It just makes sense for longer life (or so it seems).
