Not to thread jack but is 210 too warm for a tranny. I pull a trailer every once in a while and it's pretty heavy and is hard on the tranny temps, should I think about installing a bigger cooler?
I ran the 679. It will work for your truck just fine, Matt. I think I have a thread for the install on a 900 somewhere around here, that I did on my 1500.
Ok well I got the trans temp gauge installed drove it for a day in the heat then put the cooler on Friday night and drove it yesterday.
Trans temps look great how ever the ac is suffering. I understand it would be effected a little bit but I when it's 95 and your wife and kid are in the car they like the ac to work good.
I know the cooler will work with reduced efficiency if I mount it behind the condenser but it's over sized anyway. Last night on the way home I was only getting temps of 150. So it might be slightly over cooling. Idk I move it and see what happens.
Check your fan clutch. You may not be moving enough air. You shouldn't notice the trans cooler. Do you have the trans cooler mounted directly against the AC cond.? If so, I'd mount it further forward leaving a decent air gap.
Fan clutch should be fine as I have no overheating issues. Plus all was well before the install.
The cooler is mounted with the pads supplied in the kit against the cond. I read somewhere that if you mount it away from the cond. at low speeds air will take the path of least resistance around the cooler. But at highway speed it will work fine.
OEM is installed in exactly the same location as the Hayden unit in the pictures with no problems. I have one mounted on my truck and trans temps run about 45 degrees max above ambient. Also have zero problems with cooling. Mine will still put out ice cubes at idle
Check your fan clutch. It may not be fully locking up if it has much age on it.
