I flushed the trans in our xterra a couple years ago and installed an aux trans cooler at the time. I have since learned that it dosnet really need it since the factory cooler is over sized anyway. It's the same cooler they use one the tundra.

We deal with Texas heat so I didn't see a problem leaving it in except the '96 now needs a aux cooler. I had planed on just taking the aux off the X and putting on the 96 or just buying a new cooler for the 96. What do y'all think?

Pics off current set up on the X. The black one is the factory unit.

Well that particular one is kind of out of my price range. If I buy one it would have to be in the $70 and below range.

Would the aux one I have be ok? Or would it be a waste of time?

Well it couldn't hurt anything, if it's what you have and you're working from a budget, go for it.

Well $70 is my budget. But if I can do the same thing for cheaper that would be better.

Also I've read that the design of the stock one that's on the X already and the one that you posted is a better design than the auxiliary cooler I have already.

I'm just trying to weigh my options and figure out what would be the best.

Even an inexpensive cooler can drop temps a lot in the heat of Summer. Any cooler is better than none.

Look at a Hayden 679 cooler. It's more in your price range and will provide all the cooling you'll ever need. A stacked plate unit (primary cooler in your pics) is superior to the tube and fin unit (secondary unit in your pics) you show in your pics

Ok I think I'll leave the one on the X and get the Hayden. I ordered a trans temp guage and a piller from summit yesterday. Should be here pm mañana. I'm putting it in the test port, it'll be interesting to see the before and after.

Thanks for the input guys!
