I have one that's a tow (loop ends; 5,667lbs safe work load; 17,000lbs break strength; 20') and a recovery (hook ends; not sure of the rating, its outside in the truck and stays in the truck).

I think the loop ends are supposed to be stronger, but hook ends are more universal. The only way to use a loop strap like a hook is if you pull all 20+ feet of the strap through the loop to wrap it around something.

It's nice to have both to keep your options open. (I've only used my hook one twice and both times it was on dry pavement)

WRONG!

You NEVER do that with the strap. Use shackles, like you're supposed to.

:D2

You do when there's no other way... Such as the shackles not fitting, or being in a different truck... :uhoh:

Plan ahead

It wasn't a problem with the attachment point of the strap, it was the hook itself. This was a brand new strap, first time using it, no excessive force other than slowly pulling a truck out of a clay slick (had street tires). It was a 15,000 pound strap that the hook broke on. They paid for the replacement of the rearglass, bought a new carseat (as recommended they should only be in one accident and then replace), and replaced the strap. I have never used the strap they sent me. I bought the procomps and haven't had issues since.

I have an Erickson 20' 15000Lbs Tow strap. Its one strap that has never let me down. Ive ruined ropes, straps, chains and even a cable( nobody injured as a result) I dont like ropes or slings with chain ends because the rope is only as good as its weakest link. When a rope or sling snaps/tears it usually doesnt do any damage....which is a good thing.

One of the kids we have working for us for the summer got his work van stuck yesterday. So another co-worker with a truck went down and pulled him out...but he was hung up on a steel fence post that was broken off used for a road sign at one point. He had a chain and pull all fours trying to get him out but did. So i said today lets buy a tow strap for the company so we have one...so now i get to shop as well and am thinking i will maybe go with one of these!

Well I bought the 3" 30' Smittybilt, I don't plan on using it hardly at all, but for less than half price, I figured I couldn't go wrong
