So within the month I'll finally have the Commander paid off..... and want to get rid of the Liberty.

Quick background- traded my beloved Sierra Denali in on the Liberty to cut down on payments since I have kids in daycare. Kids are still in daycare, but with the Commander paid off and currently owe ~ trade-in value on the Liberty, i'd like to get a vehicle "sized" a bit better for my family.

Only two kids... but its still a tight fit in the Commander for anything more than a day trip somewhere (i think young kids take up more room once you factor in strollers/toys/etc).

Found this.... seems like a good starting point:

But im also thinking about trying to hold strong for another year.... maybe try to get an 09 5.3L 6spd...

lol it's a "last resort".

On one hand, I can get the minivan and suffer for 3-4 years, save up more money, and then buy a SWEET Suburban once the kids are out of daycare which will free up quite a bit of monthly budget..... OR get a cheaper Suburban now, of which my wife and children are going to destroy (my wifes a "car slob"... i hate it... thats why shes not allowed in my Commander and I never drive her Accord)

It's really a tough call...

Suburban money for a vehicle you know will get trashed is crazy, IMO.

I know :(

Edit: but I did say "cheaper" suburban now. That link i posted is actually the max of what i'd consider. Realistically id be look at 2005-2006 and around $18k.... which is really only $4k-$5k more than a decent minivan...

But still... I'd go crazy trying to take care of a suburban as opposed to a minivan which is going to lose all its value regardless.

I'd say a suburban over minivan. At the age you're looking at I'd assume a truck will hold up better and have lower maintenance than a FWD van.

Im not worried about maintenance in the slightest. Im an ex ASE tech and know what im looking for in a vehicle. I've be inside & out just about every truck & minivan on the road.

For the age and price i'm looking at, the truck will have twice the mileage and cost more; just an FYI. But again, even a truck with ~80k miles isn't a concern for me.

If you were to even consider a mini van you should be looking at a Toyota Siena. Simply for reliability and resale value. Those Chrysler Town and Countries have been known for being Electic/transmisson/suspension nightmares. Look at how cheap that mess it. Reliability rating is probably half of what your Commander might be..
