This damage estimate lists some of the parts as "recycled" . I confronted him about it and he said its common practice to use recycled or reconditioned parts on a vehicle over 10 years old. Is this true or should I fight it?
The main thing I want new is my AC panel since it is less than 3 years old. I got a brand new one from the dealer in 09.

That should be stated in the policy.

The ins company will dick you out of everything. Fight it, especially if you have proof of said purchased items.

Do read your policy first to ensure it's not there. My bet, it is.

What insurance company is this again?

They want to give me $50 for a recycled AC panel. I am pretty sure I have the paperwork on that somewhere in my truck maintenance receipts. I don't mind a used door handle, but an electronic part I want new. Especially if it was only 3 years old to begin with.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
I don't think they can force you on used parts. Not sure about thefts, but they can't on collison damage. It just adds up for the "totaled" value.

And sucks about the iPod and such. But you can scream all you want, they won't budge. They've covered theirs . . . :fume:

Now I see why they listed a "recycled" AC panel. I just called two chevy dealers in my area and both said that it is no longer available. I would have to ship the unit off for repairs.
And I did find my receipt for the AC panel, it was purchsed in 1-09 for $168 at the dealer. They can still get the panel without the rear defrost button, but not the one that has the rear defrost button. I looked on rockauto's website and they no longer have them either. :frustration:

I guess I will just get one from a junkyard and put my guts in it, especially since it has the blue LEDs in it already too. The panel actually still works, its just all cracked up.

As long as you get the $$ for it, you should be alright.. Maybe Jose or someone can help you track one down.. :dunno:

Not to make light of what DID happen, but at least they didn't steal the whole truck..

True. If the Altima wasn't perked right behind it, the bastards most likely would have tried to steal the whole truck.

They shipped me a new radio already. Damn that was fast!
Fedex delivered it a little while ago. They sent a Pioneer 6400BH, although the guy said he would be sending an 8400BH. Looks like it has all the same features. According to my VIN, he saw that my truck has Onstar. I specifically told his ass that I disconnected all the Onstar shit, and that I can use a regular harness. Yet he sent this PAC onstar adapter. I guess I will just sell it. He also sent an antenna adapter, which I told him I already had and didn't need. He sent the kit with the pocket under the radio. I HATE that kind, so I will go buy a different one.

So if anybody needs this stuff to install a radio in a 96-02 with Onstar, make me an offer.
