Cool, cuz I know the T400 has its downfalls, and 66Nova is spot on Target with the 3 positives of the T350, lower 1st, lighter weight, and less parastitic horepower loss. But suffer the hp loss, and 15 lbs isn't that bad. If its a problem, eat less twinkies yourself and lose the 15lbs, and the first gear differance can actually give you a bit better stall on launch since its not as eager to lunge forward as the T350. So give up a little, but that 400 is going to be about as bullet proof as possible for a low budget trans and it will last several years rather than a couple years. Pro's and Con's , Pro's and Cons, but I say the $100 and the good sprag drum seals the deal and makes the decision for you.I am going with that 68 400. AND THATS FINAL. THANKS Hot Rod!I'll agree with all that on the T350, but if you can get that 68 Vette T400 for $100, I'd run with that. That 68 year model will have the good sprag drum in it too. That will stand up to anything you'll be putting in that truck and then some.![]()

Matter of fact like we were talking the 400 will help take some of that tire spin off the line and its a closer gear ratio togather than the 350 so you stay up higher in your higher power band. I heard a good ol bot tell a story about the day a guy tried two different rearends one was 411 the other 308 and you would think the 411 was alot faster but turns out they almost even due to less tire spin off the line. But heck with 66 set up your only concern is hitting the brake at the finish line cause everything else was a blurr.TH-350 2.52 1.52 1.00I agree 100%Cool, cuz I know the T400 has its downfalls, and 66Nova is spot on Target with the 3 positives of the T350, lower 1st, lighter weight, and less parastitic horepower loss. I do like the idea of less spinning and/or a higher stall.I'll tell a better story, I had a buddy with 3.08 peg legger, and then changed to a 4.56 limited slip. He picked up a few tenths with the gear change, but he was aslo on slicks. Well, he got sick of drviing his El Co at 55mph so put the 3.08 peg legger back in it. So he was at the track with the 3.08's. Got both slicks heated up by backing up in the staging area into the water. Ran the car and did the same time. I said how the hell?? He said I only shifted once. So he finished the race in the 2nd gear instead of 3rd. But he was able to get the one slick to hook up and off her ran. Granted it was wasn't a fast car. We're talking 12.60's but still pretty quick for a peg legger.
