Back again with up-date and help on wire size. OK guys in some other post I wrote the small wire coming off my positive battery cable that goes into cab that supplies power to starter switch and solinoid had green crud on it well years ago I replaced so much of it because of the same problem well last week I bought some marine butt connectors to redo the wire I used well when I cut the wire I seen green crud in it again but on the original wire so I cut off a little more well just yesterday I was driving around in this Texas heat and the starter gave me no problems so today I bought nine feet of 8 gauge wire but it's speaker cable/wire with a lot of strands compare to the factory wire well that has thicker strands but not as much as this wire so I called the auto parts store because I was going to buy the same type of wire but they said it should be fine.

Do you guys agree that all should be fine the wire is nice and thick but might it melt the insulation off the wire is soft? I think I should be fine since I can run it away from any heat as it is now. Say thanks for all your help you guys & gals are great.
Be safe! Roland

It'll be fine, just make sure that the wire is as far from heat sources as possible, depending on the brand some speaker wire insulation isn't as durable as others.

That being said, I've had great success using it in my R/C truck batteries, and that sumbich could pull 100 amps

That wire should be fine. Replace it all, or jump it and make a complete new circuit. Quit running from the green stuff.

I still stand behind what I said about replacing the battery cables, if you haven't done so already.

I haven't replaced them because there good it's only that small wire that's why I want to replace just that wire with this 8 gauge wire I bought it was just the strands and type of wire it is verses the thicker strand wire but still 8 gauge wire.
Thanks! Roland
I have found out this wire coming off the battery post powers my radio as well it must also have something to do with my headlights because sometimes when I turn on my high beams my radio will blink on and off for a second. This might give you a idea how the factory cable looks at the parts stores they have a positive cable with a short wire on it with a butt connector that's the wire that's bad.

Fine, multiple strand wire is far superior to the thicker strand wire. It will work great

Put it directly on the battery, avoid any splices.

The only way to see if they're good, without stripping away all the insulation is doing a resistance test, and finding the metal percentages of the wires, and looking up the amount of resistance for that length of that combination of gauge and wire composition :uhoh:

Well, they might still be "good" but that'll give you an accurate condition rating :D
