I can think of a hundred other ways I'd rather drop $500.

From what I've seen, by the time a detector goes off, you're already caught anyway. :dunno:

Not true when it comes to that thing though, my best long distance detection was on a road trip I detected a cop running Ka band at 8miles

He was sitting on a median and had the radar on constant

It's up to how much & how fast you drive your truck

I paid $300 for mine back in 06-07 and I still have it today and it still saves me from time to time, but I don't see myself driving as fast as I did in high school

....Unless I'm late

It's a good way to help stay alert. Nothing beats good driving skills and awareness of your surroundings. That being said, I ordered it. :D

There is no way I would spend 500 bucks on a radar detector, I just drive the speed limit and I don't have to worry about it. But to each his own

Na you're right, I'm already second-guessing myself. Mainly because I don't really need it. I think I might try it for a few days. Escort offers a 30-day money back guarantee, so if it's not what I'm expecting I'll hit them up on that.

However, if buying a radar detector is on the list, as Jim mentioned it's always best to spend as much as you can afford.

Teh clown gives good advice! :zembonez:

$500 is a lot of dough. But everyone has their priorities. I'm sure Boilerup15 and Z71 Kris spend $$$ on stuff that you or I would consider stupid. :dunno:

If you drive a lot outside of big cities, it'll probably save you some tickets.. if you drive more than 5 or so over the speed limit..

About the only times my detector has gone off for laser has been in or near major metropolitan areas. Most of the smaller communities still use K or Ka.. or even X, in some instances..

Yeah I really don't go through big cities too often, so laser doesn't concern me. When I go through bigger areas I tend to slow down anyway. I usually go ~5 over consistently, be it 35, 45, 55, whatever. I've had quite a few close calls recently, though. I'll get behind someone that goes slow and then speeds up and then goes slow and speeds up. I finally pass them, but I've had two occasions in the last month where when I go to pass them a cop goes by me in the other direction. Just bad timing.

I had one two weeks ago whip it around and flip the lights on. I was going my usual 5 over and a truck pulled out into my lane. I went ahead and got in the other lane to pass him, so I sped up a little bit. He was probably going 10 less than I was. When the cop whipped it around I was like "Noooooo". For some reason she pulled him over, though. I think she was using radar and didn't realize that it picked up my speed. :dunno:

Yeah, that's understandable..

I had been pretty lucky for several years, until I got the TSX. I was taking a quick weekend trip out to West Texas and got popped for doing basically what you said..

People had been speeding up and slowing down.. speeding up and slowing down. I finally decided "screw this! I'm passing these bozos!" I topped a hill and there was a cop.. several of them, actually.. I was doing about 15 over.. maybe more.. (probably more)..

One of them came all the way across from the service road on the other side of the on-coming traffic, through a grassy area, across the interstate, through the median, whipped around, and nailed me..

"What's the rush?"

"Trying to get to Big Bend before sundown so I can take some pictures" didn't work for him..

A couple of weeks later, I decided it was time to get a radar detector, especially if I was going to be racking up lots of miles on road trips..
