I'm thinkin about buying a 96 mustang. It's a silver convertible with a white top, white leather interior, Saleen rims, a 4.6 and about 50,000 miles. Will the 4.6 make some good power with some headers and bolt ons? Maybe a cam? Anyone ever mod one of these?

The 4.6 can make some serious HP. It's a good platform for mods.

50K on a 4.6 is nothing. They make decent power stock, but they respond to mods very well.

That's what I wanted to hear. Most small v8's won't put out much even after a lot of mods. Glad to heat that's not the case. I'll try to take pics when I get off the boat.

'96-'98 Mustangs are 215 hp turds. The heads suck.

'99+ have the PI heads and more hp but the car is uglier. I never cared for the looks of the '99-'04's.

So how much of a gain would good aftermarket heads and a hefty cam give me? Would it be worth it?

Cams. There are more than one.

There are people making 750 HP reliably out of the 4.6 GT. All depends on what you want to add.

He got me scared saying that it only has 215hp. I don't want to have to boost it. It will be more of something to cruise around with the ole lady in instead of a track car but I don't want to feel like an idiot when a high school kid in his moms new Honda minivan smokes me.

Drive a GT. You won't think it has 215 HP. They are fun cars.

My little brother is hitting 12.6 in the quarter mile he is tuning it himself he said there much easyier to tune than a GM truck oh his is automactic also a vert is going to be heavyier.
