THE FRONT LIFT:
10" Leaf Springs
6.5" Front Crossmember
3" Body lift

TOTAL 19.5" lift without tires

THE REAR LIFT:
17" Leaf Springs (i need them to settle down to only 15" Of lift)
3" body lift

TOTAL 20" lift without tires

The difference is how the rear springs are mounted compared to the front. From what ive been told is I need to take the total amount of lift of the front (minus the body lift) and subtract 2-4" from that amount and thats the size leaf springs i need for the rear to sit level with the front. So 16.5- 2=14.5.

TIRES ARE ROUGHLY 49" Tall.

See the difference from a 44" Ground Hawg to 49" Michelin XL

Thanks that makes a little more sense. I'm still a little new with lifted truck math and was trying to go off of your o.p. as to hangers and leafs etc. I actually thought hangers plus leafs got the total lift(well plus BL)

So then would you take your 20" and add half the tire for a total of(in your case) 24 1/2" and get roughly a 44 1/2" of lift off of the ground? or do you lose some somewhere and can't go quite of center axel for added tire height?

Now another question is this. Is the 6 1/2" cross member a Ford thing or an SAS thing or kinda both?

i.e. I will be doing a SAS lift(only 12") ,but will be using the usual Ford axels. Will the cross member be involved? Whether the same height or different?

I know a lot of damn Q&A.

Well if everything works out right the top of the tire will just go inside the wheel well. But yess you are correct as far as the tire. Only half the size will be lift.

The 6.5" Crossmember is a fabrication part, Farmboy Fabrications offers a semi-complete kit for this swap. You have 2 options as far as crossmember size, 4.5" or 6.5". My original plans were to run the 4.5" but then I got such a great deal on these military tires that I decided to add alittle lift. When I replace these tires Ill be buying a different set of wheels. They are 20x16 and will have something similar to the rock ring I posted.

But someone actually makes a KIT for swapping a Ford D60 into the chevy. Not sure how good the kit is, or if its priced reasonably. I know if you have some fabrication know how you can easily build all the parts you need.

Gotch ya. I guess what I didn't word right was if half the tire height is an accurate number to add,but it really isn't relevent as it's a big ass lift no matter the technical numbers.:drool::thumbs:

No my fab skills aren't any where near DIYing it.:( I'll probably be a year(ish) away from it,but I like having a plan of attack in place. That way if and when I stumble onto deals I can jump on them if the money is right.:D Right now(except for the funds) a few of the 8 lug rims I have my eye on don't come in the width I'm looking for.:fume:

We have a lot of bolt on shops and I'll be doing some researching on the fab shops to see if they fab lifts/conversions as well.

I know of a local tree company whose owner lifts the shit out of damn near every vehicle in his fleet and think he started an actual fab shop. We'll see.:dunno:

I will get you a Fab shop name. In Jax, i know there one up there cant remember the name though.

What rear end do you have? 6 lug or 8 lug? IMO Id run a Ford D60 on leaf springs (keep it simple) The front axle is the expensive part, you will be looking at anywhere from 1,200-2,300 for a Ford King Pin Dana 60 price will depend on whats done to the axle. Then for the rear Id run a GM 14 bolt Full floater, those axles are nearly unbreakable for a street truck/ weekend warrior. Total for axles should be more than $2,500 if you wait for deals. But could go all the way up to over 4k if you get a set of well built axles.

Thanks.

I have the stock 1/2 ton rear end (so 6 lug:()and what you laid out is the direction I had planned on.

The prices you said are within what I expected and why I knew the wait would be a while. :( Plus the factoring in of the rest of the package(including 8 lug rims)

I agree that the axels will be the first goal to achieve.

When I have money earmarked for the truck,I plan on doing my upgrade list in progression(and provided regular shit doesn't break) ,but knowing the "what" is great because I never know what I might stumble upon in my travels.:D

I know a couple of people that find deals from time to time and if I let them know what I'm looking for WAY in advance some horse trading might be negotiated if I don't have enough $$.:naughty:
