So, apparently one of my fiends who has a GMT900 like me, black, with 35's, a tune (but 3.73 gears) is having the same exact issues I was describing here. The difference is, he has 80k on his truck and beats his truck up real good whereas I have 33k and baby my truck.
Yesterday as I was driving back from the gas station, the trans shifted from 1st into second, except it never made it into gear, the trans was stuck in neutral. So NOW I know this is all trans related. I pulled over since the ROPM's were revving but I wasn't going anywhere. Out it in park, back into drive and drove back home gingerly.
Spoke to my step brother who is a tech and he knew exactly what it was when I explained it to him.
He claims, in reverse when the truck lurches and bangs into gear after giving it gas is from a bad solenoid? Says when they get dirty and become faulty. Told me when I started moving in reverse, the reason is all of a sudden slams is because the rpm's are up but the trans for some reason doesn't fully engage into gear so when it finally does, there is pressure (rpm's), and the result is a very violent shift into gear.
I was already thinking of which heavy duty racing trans I wanted to put in the truck but maybe it is salvageable and it's an easy fix.
