Reverse Slam

Ok, so after my truck was sitting for over 2 weeks, I went to go move my it out of the driveway, and it slammed after I shifted into reverse just like the previous times I was complaining about a while ago. This time though, the truck apparently never shifted all the way into gear as the truck was whining as I tried to give it gas, it didn't move at all.

Turned it off, restarted it, then tried again and it was ok... wtf is the problem here. Dealer claimed they found nothing last time I brought it in. I'm going to have to recreate this problem, even though I hate to have to recreate it figuring each time this happens I'm causing more damage.

I really think this has something to do with my Tru-Trac. Going to bring it to the shop who did the install on that and my gears.

We have had this issue with Allison 1000s after they sit for long periods. The TC drains, and takes a long time to fill back up.

I am wondering if your experiencing the same thing.

Transmission fluid could be low, or if it's not completely engaging in gear, for a bit then fully engaging, it could cause it...

Check your transmission shift cable, make sure it's adjusted properly, and not binding.

Tru-Trac wouldn't cause those issues man.... it's trans related.

Screw the dealer, go to a good trans shop.

I agree with Matt, find a good trans shop, one that has been open for a while and has good references. We have a family run one here in NC that is always busy and everyone goes to and has no complaints.

A good shop should be able to figure out what is going on.

Ok Matt, just hope nothing happened to the Tru-Trac, cause I'm telling you, it's rather violent when it happens.

So, apparently one of my fiends who has a GMT900 like me, black, with 35's, a tune (but 3.73 gears) is having the same exact issues I was describing here. The difference is, he has 80k on his truck and beats his truck up real good whereas I have 33k and baby my truck.

Yesterday as I was driving back from the gas station, the trans shifted from 1st into second, except it never made it into gear, the trans was stuck in neutral. So NOW I know this is all trans related. I pulled over since the ROPM's were revving but I wasn't going anywhere. Out it in park, back into drive and drove back home gingerly.

Spoke to my step brother who is a tech and he knew exactly what it was when I explained it to him.

He claims, in reverse when the truck lurches and bangs into gear after giving it gas is from a bad solenoid? Says when they get dirty and become faulty. Told me when I started moving in reverse, the reason is all of a sudden slams is because the rpm's are up but the trans for some reason doesn't fully engage into gear so when it finally does, there is pressure (rpm's), and the result is a very violent shift into gear.

I was already thinking of which heavy duty racing trans I wanted to put in the truck but maybe it is salvageable and it's an easy fix.
