Remove Rear Speakers, 93 GMC??

I've got a work truck, a 93 GMC 1500 Ext. Cab, that the rear speakers have quit working. I've talked to a guy that rebuilds factory radios, and he said rarely do these radios go out on just one channel. He says I need to check my speakers first.
I looked at it today...how in the H3LL do you get TO them?

Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram that would tell me which wires are the rears, just in case the wires are bad. I guess I could trace them out, but I'm an electrician... I WANT A PRINT!!!

Basically you have to take the whole rear interior out.

Do this: solder a length of red wire to the positive, and a black to negative of a 9 volt battery. Find the lt blue/dk blue, and brown/yellow speaker wires at the amp module (above the gas pedal) touch the leads to the speaker wires. If the speakers are good they will "pop" from the battery.

The battery trick works. I use a 1.5v battery myself. Only touch the terminals for a split second or the current can fry the voice coil in the speaker. Just a momentary touch is all that is needed to hear the pop anyway.

If you do have to replace those speakers, my advice is DON'T, just leave them be and fade to the front speakers. Like BHB said, you will have to remove all of the rear panels, and in the process you will probably break a lot of clips. Also, it's only 4x6 speakers back there, NO 4x6 speaker will sound great anyways. You'd also be doing your passengers a favor as the rear speakers scream directly into their ears.

I agree that they probably won't do any harm unless somebody leaves the current connected a tad too long.

Even on my '98 I broke almost all the clips that hold up the piece that goes across the roof. 4x6 speakers really sound bad anyways. When I do rarely have a passenger back there, I have to turn the radio down since the speakers are right in their ear (on mine anyways; assuming yours are in the same location).

One of my rear speakers went out on my 93 ext/cab truck I replaced them with JBL speakers now if you cut some medal 6x9 speakers will fit back there. On the drivers rear panel right under the rear arm rest if you stick you hand under the panel you can fish out the wires going to the speakers you can tap into them and place some 6x9 speakers in boxes they make for them then sit them on the seat or you could even bolt the boxes to where the 4x6 speakers are just use sheet medal screws and screw the boxes to the area then put your speaker in the box. It's a idea and less work and you won't break the panel clips I also advise you to go with a after market radio they sound so much better than the stock radio.

I wondered about cutting them out from the front with a Dremel and replacing that way. Maybe make a "filler" ring if I had to cut out larger than the replacements...anyone tried that?
