My tune requires 91 or higher octane gas. I have about half a tank of 87 octane left, if I fill it with 93, will I be okay?

Reason I ask is because I just got a Hot Chip from www.tbichips.com today. It requires me to use 91+ octane with the stock 195 thermostat, or I can run 87 with a colder thermostat like 170. But like an idiot, I filled up with 87 just after ordering it. Granted I could put in a colder thermostat (which I'm going to do eventually given the extra cost of 93) but I would like to test this chip out today. :D

I would say you would probably be fine if you put 93 in at half... but would probably wait till at 1/4 tank and fill with 93 before I would use the chip...

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in tho

yeah if you haven't installed the chip wait, if you have I would say fill it with 93 and with just one tank you should be ok...but I am not tuner so I can not say that with much certainty, but I remember when I got my BB tune I asked Justin what happens if I have a :brain: fart and 87 in, and he it really wouldn't be a biggie if for only one tank

I had a Hypertech chip in my '91 and ran it with any fuel I wanted. I'm not sure that chip did anything.

It's not that critical. Run whatever you want to run and don't worry about it.

+1

Timing will be adjusted as necessary with your lower octane fuel. You'll have a little clatter until you fill up with the recommended octane

You will be fine. If you hear any rattling then back off the throttle. But I don't think you will have any issues.

I went ahead and used 93, it was fine. Brian (the tuner, not :brain:) got back to me and mentioned that 87 would be okay, but I would only see max gains with higher octane or a colder thermostat.
