When Jeep decided to axe the Commander after 2010 (In the US market), i was a bit sad... I like the Grand Cherokees but the extra room and the "classic look" of the Commander is more my style.

Just came across this on another forum. I think I can live with this....

Jeep is being run by 46-year-old Brit Mike Manley, who cut his teeth in the business as a car dealer in the U.K. before moving to America with DaimlerChrysler eight years ago. Manley's vision for Jeep includes a new Grand Wagoneer, built on a lengthened wheelbase version of the new Grand Cherokee's platform. "Grand Wagoneer would be the pinnacle of Jeep," he says. "We still have work to do to be able to confirm we can do it, but it is very much in my plans." Also on the agenda are diesel engines for the U.S. market, and a new baby Jeep, smaller than Compass, for the European market. "What we want to do is be the complete SUV brand. So as we think about the portfolio, we're thinking about expansions in those areas."

There's always been a place in my heart for the classic Wagoneer... i'd love to find one and restore it.

So, it'll essentially be the new Commander but with a popular name 20 years ago...pretty easy since they already stretched the platform for the new Durango. Also made me wonder yet again why the replaced the Cherokee with the Liberty here while the rest of the world is still the Cherokee. It's not the Cherokee is a tarnished name.

Edit: I doubt it'll look anything like that as it just looks like the Commander with a new nose and wood panelling. I'm sure the new one will be softer ala new GC and Durango that it's based on.

NO. it just seems like an aftermarket redition/kit to slap on a commander to appear like the ole wagoneer. :nonod:

I was happy in 2008 when they redesigned the "Liberty". There were rumors that it was going to be named the Cherokee again, and the styling showed as much... but they kept the Liberty name :(

Yeah that's not an official picture. Not even a Chrysler concept yet.
