Whats up everyone, this is my first post on TMC
i searched the threads and i couldn't find anything on the subject,

im in socal and im throwing some fiberglass fenders and maybe some bedsides on my dodge ram (2003 4wd 1500)

i want to get the truck pained either factory color (gray with small flakes)

or Satin Black. (maybe a black base coat then a clear coat with a flattening agent.)

i had a couple quotes from 600-1200 for the paint job. are those low prices to good to be true?

or does anyone know a decent body shop or customs place that does good work for great prices in my area?

Thanks!

Welcome to :tmc:

Given how everything in Cali is pretty expensive... I would guess that is on a very cheap side. Sounds like what Maaco does here. I had my Camaro painted by them a couple years back... They told me factory color and it came out completely different ( It was okay because I liked the new color) but they ended up just painting over all my scratches. So they were clearly visible after the new paint job.

Just know that with a paint job, the old saying "You get what you pay for" applies tremendously!

Ask to see some of their previous work or if you can talk with some of their previous customers. A paint job is something you will have to look out the rest of the time you own the truck. So make sure it's quality!

There are plenty of quality shops in the LA area. But be prepared to pay at least 7,000 for a nice job. I'll ask some friends to see if they can recommend one for you.

wow i didn't expect to see this many responses so quickly,
im starting to like this place. :D

Cool, thanks for the input guys.

a couple places offered a 2 year warranty, but that makes me a bit weary since a quality paint job should last 5-10 years if im not mistaken.

Any input on satin paint jobs??

Yeah this is a pretty fast pace site... Unless its like 2-3am or beyond you usually get some sort of response pretty quickly.

I'm no expert but seems like it should be longer than 2 year...

Not sure on satin jobs... I've seen some pretty sweet flat gray or flat black paint jobs

Welcome to truckmodcentral.com neighbor, where abouts in OC do you live?

I had 2 of my customers had their hummer and escalade painted at Rock and Roll custom body paint. They swear this guy is the best of the best in OC and as he advertises, they "only look expensive."

Check them out if it isn't too long of a drive for you. http://www.rr-custompaintworks.com/home.html
