What brand of cam do you have. I would contact the ,manufacture and see if you need the zinc after initial break in.
The cam is a regrind cam and it was grinded from a crane cam---i don't know whether it needs the zinc or not all the time but guy here who builds is pretty much a legend around here an ya just say yes sir when he tells ya to do it....

Lucas oil stabalizer does thicken the oil, same thing happend to me, and anyone I know only uses 20w-50 in race applications or jet-boats.

Is the zinc additive only for break in? Seems odd to need a special additive to run a cam all the time...
My builder told me to use zinc additive all the time or cam go flat:dunno:. Well i called a diffrent parts store an they got the zinc additve i can add to my oil-i was thinking castrol 10w-30 with the zinc...Iv got so much oil pressure it leaks a little off the side of intake and seems to blow alittle out vavle cover.

If you have oil coming from the intake and valve covers, there is more of a problem then oil pressure. The amount of oil pressure you have should not be blowing it out the intake and valve covers.

I agree with ya the intake may need a thicker gasket and the valve cover gasket might not be centered. its so little about moisture type so i havent messed with it yet and thought wow look at the freaking oil pressure-70psi-an was just considering it as a possiablilty:dunno:

Joe, check out this article. Should explain everything you need to know about what oil to use or additives for your oil.

ok read it-so i need to keep that zinc add. in it all the time-glad iv been doing that since birth of cam-talk to a salesguy at part store .Whos dad races with a 1200hp car and found out the hardway by not using the zinc add. Cost was 4000.00 to rebuild. He went in detail about what it all did...

The Shell Rotella, which is formulated for diesels, has the zinc and it comes in 15W40. That weight would be ok in your motor.
