It would take a LOT higher fuel prices and a LOT better mpg from a diesel to convince me to buy one of the noisy stinky fokkers. I've seen the European tiny diesel cars. They stink. They rattle. They suck.

The new ones are wicked quiet. I personally like the rattle but most people dont. I can understand why. The new common rail fuel systems cut way back on the noise. Even our new construction equipment at the shop is super quiet. The fan is louder than the engine. I have read articles with tests on the new HD's from ford and chevy and they claim that the diesels are no louder than the gas engines. I'm sure there is some insulation helping that but they are a lot better lately.

As far as diesel prices that is just flat out price gouging and the EPA trying to kill diesel technology.

How's about if you could get 50mpg out of your econo box? Rather than 30mpg? And if you ran it on veggie oil, it'd smell like french fries!

Nissan is currently developing a next generation Titan replacement - due out within a couple of years. This would be a feather in their cap if they could launch it with this engine and offer up some real fuel economy improvement.

I agree, a diesel engine in their lineup could certainly spark new interest in light truck buyers looking for an alternative to HD trucks.

I just can't believe they're still a couple years away from a new bodystyle. The Titan released in 2004 and only change really minor things. Going almost 10 years on the same bodystyle is insane in today's car market. :dunno:

Well, they were working on a deal so that Dodge would provide the next Titan. But, the bankruptcy, bailout, and - I think more of an issue - Chrysler's tie-up with Fiat killed that deal.. So, Nissan had to either find someone else to provide a new Titan for them OR go back to the drawing board and provide one for themselves..

I thought that deal with Dodge was a new deal? That may explain why they've kept it so long then.

Anyone ever drove or rode in a Titan? Those A pillars cause horrible blind spots.

I'm pretty sure the deal with Dodge was being worked when they had to file bankruptcy and get bailed out. I "think" it was still intact, up until Fiat agreed to buy a stake in Chrylser, at which point I believe Fiat told them they couldn't do the Nissan Titan deal anymore..

I'd have to go find old news articles to verify that. But, that's how I'm remembering it.. :dunno:

I've never been in a Titan. I test drove a few Nissans before I bought the Sierra back in 2007. I wasn't real impressed with them.. :dunno:

Yeah, I think the Dodge deal came about in 08 or so, right before the bankruptcy/bailout. It was scrapped as a result. Nissan then thought about dumping the Titan, but finally decided to go back to the drawing board and design/build it in-house again.

I drove a Titan back in 2006 when I was thinking about trading my truck in. I like the truck at the time, but after the drive and seeing the blindspot and some other things I decided I needed to wait. I wasn't too impressed either.

I drove one too in 05, I think. I liked the power, but that was about it. Not fond of either the exterior or interior, and it guzzled fuel like it was going out of style. IF they got a high mileage diesel in a Titan, I would definitely look at one again, though.
